Title: New motor project SH .37
Post by: Brian Gardner on November 18, 2020, 06:26:16 PM
G'day All,

EDIT _ I have enough people interested so I will be proceeding with this.

I'm considering doing a new motor project. I'd be buying a number of SH .37 motors and putting my stunt timed piston/liner sets in and adding a venturi/NVA. I'll also hopefully have a lightweight muffler. And possibly a lighter head.

The sale price upon completion would be approximately $240 Aussie dollars ( $175US ).

In an ideal situation I'd buy incomplete motors to keep the price down but the factory doesn't want to supply this - so I have to buy complete motors.

I have done a dimensional check and these have the same bolt pattern as the Thundertiger Pro 36.

Would people be interested in buying these?

I would include the original ABC set and carby in the box - no point in me keeping them.

They don't appear to make anything bigger.

Looks like it's already ABC? Would we get the OEM P/L too? Do they make anything bigger?

A lot of people have messaged me to ask if these will be "like" Randy's AeroTigers - the answer is yes - similar concept.

There will hopefully be an option for a lightweight muffler too.

This will only happen if you guys want them.

could be my choice with a much lighter custom made , round (not square) head clamp +  Tongue muffler ,
but expense of shipp . Taiwan - to - Australia - to - Europe is my obstacle.
Plus fees and taxes ,  250 USD + .

So these SH 37's should weigh about 7.71 oz. with out muffler. and be near equal to Aero tiger 36 in run and power? Lighter mufflers can be made and hopefully the power and characteristics of the Aerotiger would be duplicated. If so I will order one.

Yes to all the below.

The head clamp...... If I include a new round one it will just add to the cost without adding to function.

Advertised as a gasoline engine with no coil needed?
Is this the same motor?

Hi Brain’,
The SH .37 has the same stroke as the LA .46. If you are making a new piston, liner, head assembly, you might be able to increase the displacement of your custom engine if the stock liner OD is large enough.

If you "Dremel" crankcase exhaust open , you will open an intake transfer port ,right area of ck exhaust frame y1.

I'm wondering what is the advantage to the SH .37 motor you propose? It is already an ABC and weight is around 7.7 oz. ish bare bones. With Randy's aero 36 you get an AAC setup that is about 5/8 oz. lighter than the ABC. Why not go to AAC? I know you haven't done this but AAC is the way to go. Worth learning how to do it. Light weight and powerful is the combination we want in stunt.

Hi Brian, put me down for 1.  Don't really need it but oddball engines are fun.

If I can achieve a decent weight saving with a replacement head clamp, or machining the stock one down I can do this, but all the extra work comes at a cost.

The benefit if it is already ABC.... my liner will be stunt timed.

I'm considering a bore increase Al, possibly to .40, will wait till I have the test engine to decide. I don't want to make the liner as thin as the LA46.

  Hi Brian,
I don't know much about your engine work other than a guy from New York had an old OS35S with your PL in it the thing ran superbly so I asked abut it & was told it was one of yours.
Let me know if you ever deside to do a Veco .61 setup ....ha , ha , ha,

What's your point? That's just another R/C motor with a venturi fitted.

Or are you suggesting it would be a good engine to do a re-work on?
