Bench Test Jig

Greetings All; I had intended to fabricate a test jig for my .35 and .40 McCoys today when I got to the shop but I left the engines on the table this morning. Would anybody happen to have the mounting dimensions on these two engines? I would greatly appreciate any and all info. Thanks Ed Vega (one of the NEW guys)

Ed: Heres the 35 don't have a 40.

HI Ed,

Way too many good profiles from the "good ol' days" to list.  The Flite Streak and Goldberg (now Brodak) Shoestring, Buster, and Cosmic Wind are the ones that jump out at me.  Any of the " smaller Nobler wing" Brodak Warbirds would work well with those, also.

Just please run them on the rich side and use at least 25% all castor in them.  A Red Head McCoy is not known for *longevity* and low oil (especially of the syntehtic kind) will *almost* sure cause an early demise.

BTW:  GMA said one time that the McCoy 40 was the best "stunt timed" engine ever made.  Many top leve NATS flyers used the 40 around the end of the '60s including Ed Southwick (Skylark), Jim Kostecky (Formula S), and Bart Kaplinsky who won in '68 with his Tempest.  I use my 40s in built up planes! ;D

The Dare kits all build light and the Brodak Magician is another one. Check out www.sshobbies.com he got just about anything you'd want in kits for either engine.

My .35 and .40 which I just won on e-bay 70.00 for the pair. later models then the red head grey case and black head. very clean good compression. I powder coated the head and prop back stop. I only flew 1/2A .049s these are my first of this size. Bill I did build a Cosmic wind Lil Toni I believe it required a .049.

Hi Ed,

Ok, then yours are the "Series 21" Testors McCoys from the '70s.  No problem, they have dykes rings and will do a little better in the long life category. 

The Cosmic Wind I referred to (along with the Buster and Shoestring) were made by the Carl Goldberg Co. back in the '60s and now Brodak makes a revised version of all three.  They are 40"-42" WS profiles for 10-35 size engines.
