New kids on the block ( Brazilian competition )
« on: August 05, 2022, 05:43:17 PM »
yes, the band sucks, but....
Ok, kinda click bait on the title, but the story worth reading!
Few weeks ago on a whatsapp group devoted to CL in Brazil a gentleman invited us for a local competition within 4 days. The goal was to have 3 categories> beginners ( take off, level flight, 45 degrees flight and landing), intermediate ( same + wing over, loop and inverted laps) and mini-fai ( all round figures of f2b pattern).
It was a 2 hour drive for me, i have just learnt the clover and i though, why not? I would only benefit of learning the trade of competition, tips, advice, and congregate with some virtual friends. I took my 2 practice planes, the e-power Holeshot and my glow slightly modified version named Holeshot Master.
To my surprise the Beginners had a lot of entrances, and when they started to arrive to the field, i was amazed how young they are!
i arrived a few hours early to test fly the Glow plane as she´s a better flier than the profile version. Upon take off on the first  wingover/invert the engine was strange, when i recovered from the wing over the engine had a cut/start and i thought would be some dirty on the glow.....again on the vertical 8 same thing....but i was o competition mode and carry on. Halfway the clover the engine finally quit overhead and my 30 min daily runs on gym really payd up. after some frantic running i landed safely. Shaken from the incident i´ve found out that the tank top cap went away and the pressurized system was the culprit of my erratic flight. I must admit my weakness but i opted to go electric for the official flights
this first picture is the Beginners , girls from 10 up to gentlemen with 61!
this post will be updated , plese return for more. as the pictures are big i have to split posting

Add about 40 to everyone's age, and that's exactly how our contests look like too!
😆

this is the intermediate category team.
the field was adjacent a small airport and parachute was happening all the time, while we´re flying we saw a lot of them
competition was in a relaxed enviroment and some liberties with rules taken to bring more newcomers to the circle. turned out that many showed up and we had a full day of flights

Mini-Fai competitors and a more than happy and suprise myself  ;D
for a first time and fres from the clover mastering was a really suprise indeed. Credits must go to long time friend Fiorotti, who developed the fiorotti´s timer and made me convert to electric power ( i was the only e flyer there) that made me more confident to learnt the pattern. Bob Hunt had his share of participation because his design Holeshot was such an amazing trainer and flier ( i had sent him my gratitude words for sure).
More than feeling happy for the outcome i was amazed to see such young boys and girls entering the hobby, a sight i was missing along the last 10 years or so. On my local field (on the biggest city of brazil, São Paulo) the attendance is small and no new fliers showed up on the last years, so this may be a promising sign of things to come. hope other kids follow the example.
Now i gotta practice for the upcoming events and try to master the F2b Pattern

Jeebus, find out how they did it! We had a "trainer day" and none of the kids ever came back or showed any sustained interest.  H^^ Steve

In 1944 18-20 year old's stormed beaches, and parachuted behind enemy lines to almost certain death.  In 2015 18-20 year old's need safe zones so people don't hurt their feelings.

The answer lies in the control of the parents.  If they like it they will encourage the youngster.   If not for get it. D>K
