Picked this up , mainly for the G-51 . But should be a good knockabout .

Der , FSRS's in the Mewgull. So , as I ' removed ' the Tail Weight , a lighter Injun wasnt a bad idea, and I want to get some time on the COMO 51s .
Shaved the lugs narrower by a few mm , and the exhaust stack , so the wrench gets a straight run . Think I will bung in the G-51 std.  type intake .

C ontrols were as sloppy as a Hondas roadholding , so ' removed ' the rear section - thru the fairings & vertical at the hinge, under .
Cleaned the wire at the elevators ( it was only secued verilly longitudinally  ) and Epoxied it to em , to reduce the ' torsion ' length.
( 3/32 wire ). Put a few of the brass hinge keeper suckers into the T.E. adjacent the horn . There were NO Bushes , at the tailplane.

Gave the flaps a hard time similarly - cleaned up the bushes - for adheshion , and shifted them out flush with the fairing edge, & EPOXIED
Were put in with elastoplast previously . . Pushrods o.k. but rear horn'll get bushed - as Mr Hunt ISNT a fan of floppy elevators , and
the Ideas to see what a real live Genisis will do . Pity its not 100% , the Engines not ' std ' to the Original. Besides being to heavy , my thoughts
the G51 needs more work to do to run right. ( Bigger Plane ) . Pulled the Head - the G 51s near new- Italian . FOUR should be enough , No More ! .

Scuttled the engine Bay , they called this a TANK . might explain a bit of fuel soak .

The 20 Oz. Eastwing cleared F1 out neatly , with the minimum of fuss .
Harassment with acetone on a paper towel , a rasp , file , steak knife & sanding block got it pretty clean .
Bunged previous vent pipe apetures , New Engine Bulkhead & tank floor ( Ceiling  ).

Will have to redo the redone spinner ring again , this time in 1/8 ply . a notch different length for the Como .

One wings been recovered in plastic at some stage , will leave for now . But I will whittle the rear block into the proper ' airfoil '
as it was just ' rounded ' . A tank to go , and we'll see ' wottel shedoo ' this weekend , weather permitting .

Might get a proper lower deck with the correct outlets , etc etc  eventually , if all turns out fine .

Assume its a ' Mk III ' with the wider fuselage .

And the Square wing tips . They are now , anyway .Want a good comparison with a Std. Genisis , So its back to ' as plan ' .
1/16 th in lite ply  let in there .
The airflow at the outer / rear tips gives quite a noticeable affect , really should have a slight radius . Might need a bit of
sawdust to fair'em in nicely .
The Controls firmed up nicely , for now . New Bush at elevator . Will test it & see if theyre adequate , the flaps are a bit soft too /
twisty - Though seem untissued . That'd stiffen them up . But for now , leave alone . Just about done .

Found my old G-51 Spitfire fuel tank . Seems clean , but I will boil it in baking soda solution .

Throw it on thoroughly , Wipe any runs or wrinkles . Leave in car to dry , in the sun .
Resin to exclude the gook , anyway . Will rub it back , after the weekend .

Blast a bit of silver lacquer on , to see if its level & accentuate any dry bits .
a ' bit of ' a rush job . Of Flying Tomorrow . If it keeps out the fuel, good & well .

Still think the controls are a bit ' soft ' for a decent breeze . If the things wayward
will likely ' refuselage ' it , so can easy get 1/8 wire horns in there . After a yarn
to the builder will know if its ' strip back - able ' Flight Evaluation and we'll see
where we go with it . Should be fine for a calmish sunny day , as is .Other than Visually .

Yea , theres a version of the 51 & 40 baffled injuns in abc , with ABC stamped on the lug . My Pile are ringed . Threw the oldest ( most Used ) 51 in ,
with a nylon dribbler intake  , Fine on 10 % N , near enough to a 4-2 , but diluted the fuel to 5 % , and wasnt as autoritive .

First Flight , & first time ive run the engine ! , was in the club Tri Comp . ( one flight in stunt, racing, and combat ( you can use more than one model )
Unfortunately some mug who shant be named ( ) used tygon for the vent to the tounge muffler nipple , so it got loose about the 3rd manouvre and cut ,
However I still didnt come last . Next Flight on the 5 % and gave it a bit of a free forall workout . Inners a bit low , so tip Wt. in the toob's needed ,
but corners even , a bit blustery ( was going to say the air was like the Govt, indecise , full of holes , dosnt know where its going and always changing direction )
but they might SEE this , so I wont .
Good Squares & Triangles , & Rounds , but the twisty torsion in the 3/32 wire gives the air pressure heed , so kept a lot of it high . Satisfactory However ,
will need to put in 1/8 wire horns , or keep it for the calm . Not as if there isnt other ' chores ' need attending to , just now .

A 2 1/2 hr. ' trip ' Ea Way , to Kuringai ! . Silicone fuel line for the uniflow vent , Helps .

Sort of ' sythes ' its way , under ( wind ) pressure . Overall a pleasure to fly .

Fair bit of turbulance of the gum trees etc , wind was throug fwd. there , to over your left shoulder , usually the 90 deg. to where youd picked to hit off , or start ea. ' stunt ' .
Tracks very nicely, came out spot on plan C.G. with no ballast .Had to tweak flaps in line for level wings .  First Flight kicked outer up a good 20 degrees in the top of a loop or bunt ,
so maybe as well it cut when it did , rather than sything off into the deck in a gust , and planting it .Will leave it structurally as is , for the meantime . Bit of a clean up , and a Can of White Duplicolour ! .

A Few Mods for this weekens session .

Was a RATTLE in the outer wing , Shook all the pellets ( shot gun ? ) out , and weighed them. 24 G . Later found another one on the carpet , so more .
Aryldited 30 grammes of tyre weight, curved , rebated into the end of the outer wingtip . Thought about this , say the outers a metre long , Each
millimeter is ONE PERCENT differance , so Ive Saved Weight there   Will Drill a 1/4 dia. hole or two , if its excessive .
( Er Um its one percent at 3 am , appears to be 0.1 % in daylight .  )1 cm'd be 1 % .

Closed up the gap , from 1/4 to 3/32 in the inner tip leadout slot . Carved a clean edge and let in two 1/2 x 3/16 facings , forced in some 3/32
speaders to hold it while the pva goes off . Doped & sanded itll be closer than 3 / 32 . Will of course block sand it ' faired in ' .

Dunno how critical this ' bloody geat hole ' in the wingtip is . Thinking we could go down to the airport and cut a 3 in x 1/4 hole in a 747s wing tip ,
and they could let us know what they think of it .

The HEAVY bit , blasted some dope & talc on , and a drop of silver, so doesnt look quite so gruesome now.
