Title: New Guy
Post by: philip metzner on December 17, 2009, 07:29:53 PM
Hello everyone! I just got signed up and wanted to check in. I have been involved off and on with control line for about 40 years, but im pretty bad at it! I used to build 1\2a only, then later i built some .15 size planes because in my opinion they fly better than 1\2a. Now things are going back the other way again because the lack of a big enough area to fly in. I suffer from vertigo pretty bad and if i look up to high ill fall down, but i dont care, i still have fun. I havent done anything in about two years cause im restoring my 57 chevy but im now looking forward to doing some building and flying wile i take a break from the car.---phil

Welcome Phil,  H^^

Same problem here - the vertigo that is. We fly half A stuff over grass, so when I fall down it isn't too painful. Besides, it amuses the other fliers.  LL~

I've been thinking about getting some of those knee and elbow pads from Harbor Freight. Those and a helmet should make flying off our black top circle, a little safer as well. ;D

My Doc told me there is a simple exercise therapy, that can help some forms of vertigo. Unfortunately, it doesn't help my type. Think it's called the Epley (or Epler) maneuver.

Just did a quick Google search for "vertigo exercises", and came up with pages of good information! Epley maneuver therapy is one of the recommended treatments.

Good luck staying upright!

Bill

Bill, the baby ringmaster has a tee dee on it now, it used to have a souped up .049 cub. The baby streak has a cub .074 and so does the skyray. I also have a wizzard with a wen-mac.

Phil,
Welcome to the group. Don't feel bad about the vertigo. I flew in October and November for the first time in over 30 years. I got so dizzy I hit the ground and broke a prop on my Lil Raider 1/2A and did the same with my full size Ringmaster.  y1 I didn't fall down, but that is probably because I was staggering and I flew the airplane into the ground before I fell down.
Just have fun! #^

Welcome Phil, and make yourself at home! This is the best bunch of CL'rs you'll find, anywhere!

There are several free utility programs to reduce your pixs with. Generally, you want them around 400x600 pixels in size.you can go a little larger or smaller, as long as it is below 1 Mb total per post. I use PIXresizer, http://bluefive.pair.com/pixresizer.htm

It has a very easy to use interface(idiot-proof!), and allows you to do a single picture, or a whole folder of them as a batch process. Just setup a folder on your desktop titled as"small" or something, and make that your destination folder for your newly sized images to live in.

Pictures are a great thing here, and we have a lot of motorheads in the group too!(so show us that hot rod!!)

I hope this helps, and if you need anything, don't be shy to ask! The answer is usually 5 minutes away.

Enjoy!

I have a brother-in-law that I talked into flying a little Hacker 1/2A combat plane.  He has vertigo as I was told after I had launched him.  He didn't quite make it to the trees, but, he did wander a bit and kept from falling down.  It was real good after the plane landed as my sister went and took his hand and led him to a chair.  A year later we are down at their place out in the country in Missouri.  I was flying my Bi-Slob and he asked to fly it.  He thought the slow speed would help.  He was on his fourth flight when they called us for dinner.

Hi there.  Welcome from the frozen north.  I had a good look at your fleet and am sorry to say that they are indeed past due for replacewment.  Unfortunately you will have to send them to me for proper disposal.

Well ok....maybe not! Nice planes and I like little stuff too.  Its cool that you can crash at full bore and it just bounces.  Kind of like my head!  LL~ H^^

Welcome back.

Welcome back.
Thanks for the welcome! The poor little ringmaster has had the guts flown out of it and is due some TLC. The covering is all loose and needs redone.
The toughest plane i have is a jr. flite streak by topflite. My family calls it "the post hole digger". I have crashed it straight down on the nose so many times i cant count. The nose has been rebuilt, but she still flys.
