New Gieseke Nobler
« on: June 14, 2010, 06:33:10 AM »
Here is my plane for Brodak's.  I may even get to fly it before we leave if I Hurry!!!  This is a UHP Component kit and I thought it was a good piece and well thought out.  First plane I have completed, other than an RSM Ringmaster, in over 6 years.  Other than trying all new things and forgetting so many little details, it came out okay.  Like stand off scale, that's how she looks best.  RO-Jett 40 RE for power weighs about 44 ozs so far.  Looking for a miracle trimming and do expect to have fun.  Hope to fly it this evening.
Edit:  The flaps and elevators are stuck on for the picture and not permanently installed yet.

Looks good.  Did you scuff/sand/paint or cover with silkspan?

Dick,

I scuffed and sanded the SLC then primed and painted.  I could never get all of the wrinkles out and had problems with the SLC lifting when I puled off the tape (I did use a heat gun).  It was more learning for me than anything else.  I wish I would have covered the whole thing with silkspan and doped the finish.  Overall its good stuff but I think I am too traditional and actually like the finishing process of silkspan and dope after it's all said and done.

Looks great to me.  I have one still in the box.  I would like a shot of the RO-Jett as I have one in the Accentor that needs a light weight plane.  Have fun at Brodaks. H^^

Doc,

Sorry about the delay...I was caught working in between times.  Very little to cut away to make the RE work.  The cutout for the venturi was the most challenging since the bell shape is so big.  I hope these help. Get yours out and build it.
