Title: New field for the X47 Flyers
Post by: Bill Hodges on October 14, 2009, 08:42:30 PM
This morning I flew off the new "X47 Flyers Control Line Model Air Park" flying field.  We are fortunate to have a member in our club who owns and operates a large RV park with a very large pasture area behind it.  He has developed two grass circles and also a nice RC runway (there are a couple of us who dare to visit the dark side).

The site will need a little tweaking, but it is a nice flying site as is.  It is located just west of the intersection of Florida SR 16 and Interstate 95 (about 6 miles west of St. Augustine).

In addition to this site, we will still be flying off an asphalt parking at the old Cecil Field Naval Air Station (now Cecil Commerce Park) in Jacksonville.

On behalf of all the other X47 Flyers, I would like to publicly thank fellow club member Joe Petty for providing us with a new and very nice place to fly.

Bill,

This is great news. I wish X 47 the best of luck with this new site. If you decide to have an event I volunteer to help out.

Chuck:

We do not have any contests planned for this site as yet.  Maybe a fun fly type event somewhere down the road, something like Roger and Phil put on.

The King Orange will still be held in Starke, at least for the foreseeable future.  However, we are looking for help with judging at the upcoming KOI, if you are interested.  If so, let me know and I will get Tommy Weedman in touch with you. He is the CD and is lining up the judges.

Hope to see you in Cocoa.  Donnie and I will be there for both days.

Bill,
Sincere congratulations on your new flying field.
We will have to come up and fly with you sometime.
We might have to update all travel guides and add a category, "Flying Sites near I-95"   LL~
See you soon,
Roger V.

Great looking field....enjoy.  Looks like it's only a very short matter of time for us here in Lake Wales. :'(    I can't say for sure if we'll have the CENTRAL FLORIDA  FLY IN this year until the last minute.  However we had an invitation from a rancher  to come look over his place. :)

Steve,
Make it a long vacation.
The number of "circles" in Florida is growing.

Guys, if you have a motor home or camper trailer, you can stay there in the RV park and use the site all you want. The name of the park is Stagecoach RV Park.  It is a very nice RV park and only a few miles into the Nation's Oldest City.

Proof of membership in the AMA or MAAC is required.  AMA general and CL safety rules apply.  No running of IC engines before 0830.  Mufflers required on all except Half-A. Safety thongs required on all handles.  No alcohol allowed on the flying site.

If any of you ever decide to come and stay in the park, let me know and we will come out and fly with you.

That is good news . I vacation every year in N Florida with plans to make it semi permanent residence in the hopefully not so distant future. I am ambidextrous or bi-hobbyist flying both CL and R/C. I'll be in St Aug the 3rd week in Nov so I'll look you guys up.
