I received an email from Enya about a new engine from them. It appears to be an SS25S with an ABC piston/liner. Comes in about 10 grams lighter then the SS25S. 7 ounces, .65HP, about $113 plus shipping.

What type of piston, cylinder? Hopefully ABC, or ABN. That means they'll start on the 30's next. That would be great if they come out with a new 30 too!

According to the Enya site, it comes with the standard M251 muffler. No straps btw, bolt on. They show 48 of them in stock! I'll wait for shtterman on ebay to get some.

An ABC 30 would be nice!

Edit: Just heard back from shtterman on Ebay. He is expecting some this weekend!

They seem a little pricey. Never had an Enya, are they really all that?

They are all that and more. They are not flimsey,like a Fox. The plain bearing engines do not require more than 20% oil in the fuel. They have metalurgy second to none. The quality control is very good. The fit of the parts is very good. The lapped piston engines were not favorites of a lot of people because they took a while to break in. Once broken in they just do not wear out. They are easy to start and needle well. They are great engines. They don't give them away because they aren't crap!

I'll surely second Pat's commentary! I've been working with several older Enya engines specifically the .45's 6001 and 6002 with muffler pressure and they render excellent power with no fussiness in operation. I am using 11 X 5 and 6 props depending on the temperature and winds with consistent runs and fine economy of runs. Although I still enjoy my G-21 .46's these engines are essentially the same in so far as power and run is concerned.

200g weight, seems high? Is that normal for a 25? That's 7 ounces.

Brodak 25 is 205g with muffler and that's a fairly light AAC plain bearing engine.

My involvement with Enya's goes back to the age of 7, when I got my first Enya,(I still have that motor). Everything Pat said about them is dead on. They are all that and MUCH MORE. I am about to get my hands on one of the rarest and most desirable Enya's of all. I will post a pic of it here, as soon as I get it,(I hope).

Enya's only problem is that, they tend to make the motors THEY want to make, as opposed to what the public wants. They are somewhat quirky that way.

Doodlebug 440 and Medic, both from Builtrightflyright.
And, Ground Foult may be still available from Griffin's Model Service though it is not a full kit but a short one.

It can't be a 63 Marine. Enya didn't produce the Typhoon 63 as a Marine version. The Marine version of the Typhoon 60 was late in the production of the sand cast Typhoon engines.

I'd say the new .30 will be perfect for any of the .35 size classic airplanes- about anyplace the Fox .35 would have gone. A great new addition.

I kind of agree. You think they maybe would have gone maybe, 25,35,45 etc. But, Enya was always been quirky about what they want to make.

I used to read a lot on the Enya engines because for some reason as a kid my first .35 was a simple 5224 ( Xmas gift that I still have)

I suspect the old guys like to try to eeek a lot out of smaller CC just cuz they can

What I mean is the notion of .25/.35/.45 is valid but if you could make a .30 with same power to RPM of a .35 as a .30 ...well why not

25 is not only the most popular size but also for '25J' class R/C Pylon Racing.
30 is the largest size that can be manufactured from the 25 class crank case.

Except for the SS35

The iron/steel SS30 is half an ounce lighter than the corresponding SS25, so you'd expect something similar with these ABC versions.

As Aki says, the SS30 undoubtedly uses the same castings and most of the same parts as the 25. I am confident that the 25 puts out as much or more power than a Fox 35 Stunt. It should fly anything that you can fly with a Fox 35 Stunt. The SS30 most likely makes as much power as most cross flow 40 engines. The SS30 may qualify for 5cc competition.

Hi Jarrett,

It's my opinion that if a Fox 35 will fly it, then the new Enya 25 will fly the heck of of it. I ordered one just for that reason. The Primary Force would be a great choice if you want a profile fuselage. I've Flown them with many different engines from McCoy's to Webra's and they all did a very respectable job of it. Back in the 60's I flew a Nobler with a Veco 19 that kicked many of the so called big Guy's with that model. It was light at 36 ounces with a and a 10"x4" Tornado prop and sounded like a sewing machine. So I'm a big believer in running engines were thay want to run, rich wet 2-2 and let er rip.

Drop some info on you in case your interested in high performance pattern motors. This particular bad boy turns an APC 12X8 at 12,700 rpm. It hand starts VERY FAST. This one has got the GM10SB carb. Probably the most sophisticated carburetor Enya ever put out. I was searching for that.

It is actually lighter then the 60X. Unlike it's 60 brother, (they share the same case). The 80X has a hardened steel liner as opposed to the aluminum chromed one of the 60X and has very thick bronze bushings in the piston to withstand the increased torque.

I opened it up very briefly, and the power is blistering!!

Thank you so much. It really is a dream come true for me. I actually never had a large displacement Enya, and I always somewhat dreamed about the 80X. I took video of me running it but, I don't think I can post it here because of size restrictions. The big surprise is that, it is VERY smooth and it starts VERY quickly. Yes, the GM10SB carburetor is magnificent; somewhat complex though!

I guess Enya is well know for their carbs. I had 25 or so carbs from converted engines sitting around so I put them up for sale on the RC Forum and people went nuts over them. One guy bought the box full but another guy really wanted one of the Enya carbs so I found a couple and promptly sold them!
