I received an email from Enya about a new engine from them. It appears to be an SS25S with an ABC piston/liner. Comes in about 10 grams lighter then the SS25S. 7 ounces, .65HP, about $113 plus shipping.

Edited because I missed the "ABC"

What type of piston, cylinder? Hopefully ABC, or ABN. That means they'll start on the 30's next. That would be great if they come out with a new 30 too!

Looks like a nice engine!
-
Nice! One more reason for everybody out there to build a Stunt 25 model.
-
Please tell me that the muffler with strap is included! And are these engines ready for shipment now and to whom?
Thanks for the information!
Phil Spillman

According to the Enya site, it comes with the standard M251 muffler. No straps btw, bolt on. They show 48 of them in stock! I'll wait for shtterman on ebay to get some.
An ABC 30 would be nice!
Edit: Just heard back from shtterman on Ebay. He is expecting some this weekend!
-
Shtterman on Ebay has them in stock for 129.99

They seem a little pricey. Never had an Enya, are they really all that?
MM
-
They are all that and more. They are not flimsey, like a Fox. The plain bearing engines do not require more than 20% oil in the fuel. They have metalurgy second to none. The quality control is very good. The fit of the parts is very good. The lapped piston engines were not favorites of a lot of people because they took a while to break in. Once broken in they just do not wear out. They are easy to start and needle well. They are great engines. They don't give them away because they aren't crap!
Pat
-
I'll surely second Pat's commentary! I've been working with several older Enya engines specifically the .45's 6001 and 6002 with muffler pressure and they render excellent power with no fussiness in operation. I am using 11 X 5 and 6 props depending on the temperature and winds with consistent runs and fine economy of runs. Although I still enjoy my G-21 .46's these engines are essentially the same in so far as power and run is concerned.
Phil Spillman
-
Well they have to be better than the LA 25s I've been running. Hmmm, too bad Enya don't make an .049.
MM
-
200g weight, seems high? Is that normal for a 25? That's 7 ounces.
Nice engine for a twin also.
Charles
-
Brodak 25 is 205g with muffler and that's a fairly light AAC plain bearing engine.

My involvement with Enya's goes back to the age of 7, when I got my first Enya,(I still have that motor). Everything Pat said about them is dead on. They are all that and MUCH MORE. I am about to get my hands on one of the rarest and most desirable Enya's of all. I will post a pic of it here, as soon as I get it,(I hope).
Enya's only problem is that, they tend to make the motors THEY want to make, as opposed to what the public wants. They are somewhat quirky that way.
-
So what would be an appropriate kit for this engine? I have been thinking about building a control line plane for a while and have always wanted an Enya. Seems like a good time to do it.

If by some chance you don't end up with it I hope you will tell us which one it is?

Doodlebug 440 and Medic, both from Builtrightflyright.
And, Ground Foult may be still available from Griffin's Model Service though it is not a full kit but a short one.

That motor has been a dream of mine for many years. Yes, I will tell you what it is one way or another. I am currently in negotiations. Very hard to sleep lol.

We got ourselves a man here who knows his motors. That was a very good guess but, no.

Shark 402 from Brodak?

A light Ringmaster

Typhoon 60 or 63 Marine or the Typhoon 63 rear induction sparkie?

It can't be a 63 Marine. Enya didn't produce the Typhoon 63 as a Marine version. The Marine version of the Typhoon 60 was late in the production of the sand cast Typhoon engines.

The next one from ENYA is.....

-
Funny they should make a size so close to the 25
-
A light Ringmaster
Is it that much down on power from the OS 25LA? Because the 25LA would be a good engine for a Ringmaster that's coming out heavy.
-
I'd say the new .30 will be perfect for any of the .35 size classic airplanes- about anyplace the Fox .35 would have gone. A great new addition.
Dave
-

I kind of agree. You think they maybe would have gone maybe, 25,35,45 etc. But, Enya was always been quirky about what they want to make.
-
I used to read a lot on the Enya engines because for some reason as a kid my first .35 was a simple 5224 ( Xmas gift that I still have)
I suspect the old guys like to try to eeek a lot out of smaller CC just cuz they can
What I mean is the notion of .25/.35/.45 is valid but if you could make a .30 with same power to RPM of a .35 as a .30 ...well why not
-
Funny they should make a size so close to the 25
25 is not only the most popular size but also for '25J' class R/C Pylon Racing.
30 is the largest size that can be manufactured from the 25 class crank case.
Aki
-
Ok, now it makes sense. So the 30 is probably lighter if everything is the same except the bore size.
MM
-

Except for the SS35 ;)
The iron/steel SS30 is half an ounce lighter than the corresponding SS25, so you'd expect something similar with these ABC versions.
-
As Aki says, the SS30 undoubtedly uses the same castings and most of the same parts as the 25. I am confident that the 25 puts out as much or more power than a Fox 35 Stunt. It should fly anything that you can fly with a Fox 35 Stunt. The SS30 most likely makes as much power as most cross flow 40 engines. The SS30 may qualify for 5cc competition.
Pat.

I would say that's a safe bet.

Hi Jarrett,
It's my opinion that if a Fox 35 will fly it, then the new Enya 25 will fly the heck of of it. I ordered one just for that reason. The Primary Force would be a great choice if you want a profile fuselage. I've Flown them with many different engines from McCoy's to Webra's and they all did a very respectable job of it. Back in the 60's I flew a Nobler with a Veco 19 that kicked many of the so called big Guy's with that model. It was light at 36 ounces with a and a 10"x4" Tornado prop and sounded like a sewing machine. So I'm a big believer in running engines were thay want to run, rich wet 2-2 and let er rip.
Later,
Mikey

Mine will be here today, I am pumped #^ Going to build a Brodak Shark 402 in Shark 15 livery for it. Classic and new!

If the negotiations go well, and I am fortunate enough to obtain it, I will post it here if Bill Johnson doesn't mind a mild thread hijack. ;D
As promised, I said I would unveil my new Enya hear on this thread. Without further adu, hear she is!!! The Enya 80X!!!
-
That's one big momo!
-
Drop some info on you in case your interested in high performance pattern motors. This particular bad boy turns an APC 12X8 at 12,700 rpm. It hand starts VERY FAST. This one has got the GM10SB carb. Probably the most sophisticated carburetor Enya ever put out. I was searching for that.
It is actually lighter then the 60X. Unlike it's 60 brother, (they share the same case). The 80X has a hardened steel liner as opposed to the aluminum chromed one of the 60X and has very thick bronze bushings in the piston to withstand the increased torque.
I opened it up very briefly, and the power is blistering!!

Congrats, you've got a monster engine there. I have a 60X-III and my son has an 80X, both with that magnificent mid range carb which has a rather sensitive adjustment but works extremely well.

Thank you so much. It really is a dream come true for me. I actually never had a large displacement Enya, and I always somewhat dreamed about the 80X. I took video of me running it but, I don't think I can post it here because of size restrictions. The big surprise is that, it is VERY smooth and it starts VERY quickly. Yes, the GM10SB carburetor is magnificent; somewhat complex though!
-
I guess Enya is well know for their carbs. I had 25 or so carbs from converted engines sitting around so I put them up for sale on the RC Forum and people went nuts over them. One guy bought the box full but another guy really wanted one of the Enya carbs so I found a couple and promptly sold them!

ohhhhh,, pretty
I love classic pattern, this looks like the ticket to avoid running a pipe on a classic pattern bird for sure,,

Is this engine timed for stunt?
-
Is this engine timed for stunt?
I don't think they have the Brett version but my take is that most Enya are sport engines with mild timing so maybe add some head shims and you're good.
MM
-
You just run them as they come out of the box, in a wet 2-stroke.
-
It looks like it came with an extra head shim. I'd like to know what size venturi it came with. Enya has a 6.5 and a 7mm available and just came out with a 7.5mm that fits that series.
The SS30EXS is next up: http://www.enya-engine.com/SS30EX_E.html

A Mach 1 would be perfect!

From the link, it looks like you can have either.

The Enya SS30 is very popular here in Brazil. The engine is lighter then OS 25LA, but it has a lot more power and will last for ever!
I request John Miller to reduce the Pathfinder profile to 49"ws and 530sq.in. so we could offer a great profile with an Enya SS30 and it workout very well indeed. The Enya has lots of torque and superb speed control which allows for a slow flight with tight lines.

I watched this video on facebook and noticed that it was flying on the slow side. What were the lap times, do you know. Also what was the percentage reduction from the full size to get to 49" and 530 squares ?
-
assuming they don't do something like just shortening the tips or keep the same ribs, and use an exactly proportional drawing- use the square of the fractional change in the wingspan as a multiplier. For example, 56-> 49in. =49/56= .875 of the original area. Going the other way- 49->56 =56/49 = 1.14*1.14 = 1.3 *530=688sq.in. Just like a 12in. square is 144 squares, a 24in. square is 576 squares(144 x 4).
-
How did they get the Enya 30 SS if it is "coming soon" ?
-
The as 30 has been out at least 4 years, Randy would know. This is what Samantha flew till she move up to intermediate. It was a iron piston motor. The new one are ABC like the 25. I think enya also had a 35 in the same case, Randy was out before I could get one. Randy my have got special engine for Enya, my brother got a 45 pro that was ball bearing motor, but it only showed it as bushing from Enya.

This engine was plenty available until Enya cut production one or two years ago. They had the SS25, SS25 AAC, SS25BB AAC, SS30, SS30BB and SS35BB ring, all made from the the engine block. Sold many of them here in Brazil.

Not sure! I never measured the laps. I guess 5.4s
It was reduced about 11%
Martin
-
I should note that the engine in the video é 100% Stock, except I install a bigger optional Enya venturi to get the power needed to spin the APC 10.5 x 4.5. Altitude Density was about 4500ft that day and I used 10% nitro.

Just finished my new ride for this motor, weight RTF is 27 oz. Brodak Shark 402, was a real nice kit. I put about 40 minutes run time on the bench with the little Enya, and it ran great. I used Omega 10% control line fuel with 2oz castor added to a quart, TF 9x4 wood prop. I may try a 9x5 or 10x4 for flying.
-
That Shark's a nice plane, I might have to build me one of them.
