NEW EBAY SCAM
«

You get a email message about an unpaid item. It lists the seller and the "item " number. It says response required. There is something like this:
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Dear member,
eBay member jessyk6702 has left you a message regarding item #8246157399
View the dispute thread to respond.
Regards,
eBay
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
There is a place for you to click on and when you get there they want your data to get the message. Forward the entire email to:
SPOOF@EBAY.COM
Let them handle it and then delete the message you got. DO NOT TYPE IN YOUR NAME AND PASSWORD.

I believe Ebay as well as PayPal will address you by your name not as member or something else. Had this happen to me and did as Bill said, turn it into there Spoof email dept, forward the entire message.

Fwiw, the email program "Thunderbird" (latest version), picks those up as possible "scam". I get at least one a week.
I think all genuine ebay messages are also via your messages in "My Ebay", whereas spoofs are not in there.
Cheers

The spoofers are getting smarter, I never go to eBay or PayPal from any email link even if I am sure it's from eBay/PayPal.

This has happend to me too many times. E-Bay says to go to E-Bay site and if its legal message it will be there also. If not, do not even think of replying to the message. Send it to: spoof@ebay.com . Hope they catch that sucker soon. DOC Holliday
