New Chipmunk finally coming together.

It's been on the bench since last summer , I can't believe all the distractions, but finally! I'm hoping to have it ready for the NW Regional.

It's scratch built with many of the mods done by DF; equal panel wings, longer fuse etc. First time I've sheeted a wing, not sure I did it right, but it's covered. Still lots of sanding/filling

I used the Sig Super ChipmUnk (per Clint) plans. Setting it up for an LA 46 and hoping to keep the finished weight at or under 55 oz. Haven't weighted it yet, but probably will soon. The wing by itself was 12 oz with controls & ready to slip in the fuse. I'm going to carbon veil the wings to I won't poke my fingers through the balsa when I'm picking it up. I hate that when I do it.

At the point shown in the photos it hit the scale at 26.6 oz. Since the photos, I've finished filing in the wingtips and done some more filling/sanding and applied the first coat of nitrate dope. I'll put a few coats on then put some carbon fiber veil over the wings. Then, more sanding etc. Not sure it will happen before the NW Regional.

Looking good Brian. The only think I would suggest is extending the fuselage top piece so as to continue to the end of the motor mounts. It will add a lot of strength, very little weight and you can still use the kit cowl. Nice.

Yes, do what Pete said. Carve a block and epoxy it in there.

Brian  you will love it I built one with those mods and used an ST .46 it flew much , much better than the other stock Chipmunks I had built previously.

Glad to hear you are using the LA .46 that will make a big difference.

Good question, I think someone told me that the Sig Super Chipmunk has been around since the early '70s, but I wouldn't bet my life on it. I hope someone more knowledgeable jumps in here.

I have it on good authority that the current Sig Chipmunk, stock or with David's mods is N-30 eligible.
