I told Young Daniel that I had never seen him fly better.....
Mike Palko squeaked by him with the electric Mustang an 19 appearance points.
Danny's fairly well worn (and rebuilt after a crash) garnered only 10 points.....
They both flew extremely well!

BTW.....the air for PA was terrific.........

There were a bunch of good looking flights.

If the air was good for PA on Saturday it was ideal for Scale.   For my flight on the big Taube it felt dead calm!

Dan has been talking about building a replacement for the Vista for several years now. Since his 20 point OTS Comedian is finished his new PA ship will be on the boards soon.

MIKE IS A TALENT! Barely had time to practice. (I also HATE ELECTRIC.) Of course Dany's endless flying of  flea market Ring Masters, faux combat planes, Foxberg pretenders plus other non-classifiable things with and without lines, (small and gigantic) must be an enjoyment to overcome when doing the straight laced 14 figures George thought up in the early fifties. The Vista, Dany's serious stunt war wagon, is an original that breaks with most conventional assumptions about stunt friendly airfoils, moments, and so forth. The unique Vista, a homage to thirties era pylon racers, is, I think, under appreciated. Mike's electric Mustang is immaculately finished. 19 points at the NATs. The power system dead reliable. It's useful to remind ourselves that it was Mike's Silencer, flying in Advanced at the NATs a number of years back, that initiated the move to electric in CL Stunt. Hard to believe these too very competent individuals fly with Philly Flier clowns.

I got a first back in 2005. Guess I will be booted up next year.

It was nice that John Brodak had Willis Swindell’s name placed on the memorial there at the flag pole on the field. Allen Brickhaus did a very respectful memorial service for all of the fallen control line flyers that passed away since last year.

Fitton is gearing up for the NATS.

The Taube is a breeze to fly.  It pulls less than a Ringmaster.

Bu using my U/Tronics system I have besides Throttle, Rudder offset adjustment to set line tension and Wing Warping to level the wings and do a Wing Wave Option it is almost like cheating!

I'd bet the judges were flabergasted after watching what they actually thought was a 582 pattern... LL~ LL~ LL~

Mid 550's in Advanced...

Maybe we need to send Uncle Mikey Keville up there to perform a judging clinic!

Not real sure what you are getting at, maybe you need to volunteer to judge next year. The numbers don't matter as long as they are consistant which I felt they were. I think the judges did a great job (but of course I would).....

I did pick up my score sheets, the stuff I nailed scored well, the stuff I screwed up cost me as it should have. My take off/level flight received a 39 (I really nailed it). Many judges would have written down a 32 just because an Advanced guy can't possibility fly a 39 anything. I would much rather be judged by someone that will give me a 39 for something flown properly and on the same sheet give me a 28 for something I screwed up.

I love it when the judges call it as they see it.   We do have a few that will do that.  Just because a person nails the take off and level laps doen't mean that person is going to nail the RW. H^^

Bob, be sure to explain to them that, with the Saito you got first place, and without the Saito, you would have placed last-this is very important!!!

Well Bob there is something in what you say...I assume they got the order right.  However when scores go so high, it brings into question whether the judges really have enough experience to know what they should be looking for.   Also the fact that there is approximately 10 points between 1st and 2nd and 10 points between 2nd and third at the expert level also raises an eyebrow as to whether they actually know what they are looking at or just guessing.
As far as my volunteering to judge that's a possibility but in that crowd there would be a lot of anguish and dissappointment from some folks.
And that doesn't even begin to mention what Unca' Mikey would do.

For the above reasons I do not buy the premise that the actual score doesn't matter, just consistency.  That's pure folley and simply stated says that the judges aren't experienced enough to know what's best.

I do not know any of the people involved so I'm not picking on anyone just making an experienced observation!

Oh yeah...Advanced flyers scoring in the 550's...Wow you guys must be the best in the world hands down.  Somebody's blowing smoke!!!!  Why the H...are they advanced fliers?

1st 582 2nd 576.5 =5.5  3rd 571.5 is 5 points less. math???

Seems there was a recent contest on the northern left coast where two folks scored over 600. Also lots of 550 and above. On merit, certainly, it's the LEFT COAST...

At least four of those high scorers have been mentioned in the nats top 5 possibilities.  Eugene has an airport (at the site) and there are good fares available from the East coast so how about an East - West shootout next Spring?

The two top finishers at Brodak finished 7 and 8 at the NATS two years back. When top 5 was top 6. Come East and fly at the Big B. In front of at least one NATs top judge. (Who, by the way was part of the twosome that judged Expert last week in John's backyard.) Left Coast is, of course, immune to halos and celebrity boosted scoring. Not even a little bit. We defer... In any case the discussion is about the accuracy of the numbers. Not so much the merit of individual fliers.

You really don't know how right you are, think I've flown about 7 stunt patterns since Brodaks a year ago and most of those were in PA before the contest started. As I said, conditions were perfect and the airplane just went where it was suppose to. I had hold of the handle but was just along for the ride.
