New Akromaster built. Lost plans?
« on: October 18, 2023, 02:59:16 PM »
I just finished a Sig Akromaster that I started building probably two years ago or maybe more. It is fiberglass over the solid wood on the tail and fuselage.  It is Sig Koverall on the wing finished in clear nitrate topped with butyrate sanding sealer. Fuel did not seem to attack it. Engine is OS 15LA with a tongue muffler and it weighs 22oz ready to fly. Hinges are sewn using braided fishing line. My first attempt at sewn hinges. Flew it today several times on .012 X 52' lines. My first control line flights! The runs were clean on a standard vent tank with the vent plumbed for ram air from the propeller.

Anyway, I have the instruction sheet for the Akromaster but I can't find a plans sheet. There is a plans sheet isn't there? I vaguely remember there being one. After all, I can't imagine that I built the wing out in free space. Lol. Any idea where I could get a copy now that Sig is not doing control line planes any more? I'd like to have templates to cut another wing and fuselage. I'm sure I'll need them at some point.

Marty, read your instruction sheet. it's been a long time, but I think it says to just use the boarder of the instruction sheet to "square"  up the first few ribs as the trailing edge is notched. It is often suggested to NOT cut the leading and trailing edges to length, just make a couple of extra ribs and add them to the ends of the wing panels. read you instruction sheet and see if that jives with my memory.
   Type at you later,

I checked a complete, NIB kit that I have and Dan is correct.

There is an instruction sheet,  the LE and TE are notched and the ribs have tabs on one side so you can stand them up on a flat building board.

Ah! If the LE and TE are notched, that explains how I built the wing without plans.  My wing is per the instructions. I didn't know about using the TE and LE full length until it was way too late.
