New "old" plane
« on: September 29, 2010, 12:20:33 PM »
Back in a corner of my shop I found this plane, built back in the mid 90's.  It's a semi-scale TIPSY JR., a lightplane from Belgium in the 1930's.  The plans were drawn up from Tom Morris' Old Time Stunt book. I'm fixing it up to fly again with an OS35 FP.

Post-war, actually, but it sure has a 30's look about it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tipsy_Junior

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

The plans were published in Air Trails.  I have a set of the full size plans.  There was scaled up 1 1/2 size version with Forester 29 documented in a later (1950?) Air Trails.  We scaled up the plans. Bob Lipscomb had his at the VSC last year.  I have the wing and tail surfaces finished for mine.  I'm going to use a Tower 40.

There was also an OTS legal version published in Aeromodeller, available in three different sizes.
