From an apperance point standpoint (please don't hijak this and start a BOM vs no BOM rule) how big a difference does it make if you don't put lettering on the bottom of the wing?

James, I've had my planes judged numerous times...on the flight line, in the pits and under my canopy. I've never had a judge pick up my plane nor look under it. I haven't seen the actual appearance judging at the NATS, but I believe they look under them and pick them up. Sparky can clarify this point. I have received several appearance trophies and never detailed the bottoms as I have the tops. "Go figure."

At the NATS they look at the whole thing. So the bottom must be finished as well as the top.

Most local meets I have attended very seldom if ever pick up a plane and look at the bottem.  At the NATS, VSC and a few others they look them over and run their hands all over the plane.  According to one of our top notch fliers in tuscon town there should be no bumps, waves and a few other things they look/feel for.  So treat the whole airplane alike.  DOC Holliday
