Title: Never had this happen b4
Post by: Paul Taylor on August 31, 2014, 07:29:45 AM
I was just tacking something up and CA'ed the wood to my finger. That always happens but as soon as I feel it I pull it off. Well last night I could not pull it off. I did not feel it and held it in place then felt it start to burn. It felt like it was going to pull skin off. So I tried soaking it in acetone. No go!  Put it on the belt sander. That did the trick. 😜

Paul,

They make a "release" agent just for things like that. The agent, simple liquid chemicle, can also be used to remove any part attached with CA.

Comes in handy.

Hi Paul,
The belt sander sounds  a little risky!

For what it's worth, 15 to 30 seconds in nitro methane will soften CA so it can be eailsy pulled apart.

In fact I believe that the comercial de-bonder sold by Tower and others is only Nitro Methane!

Safer than a belt sander!

You can just wait a while -- CA only bonds to skin for a while, then it peels off.

When I do something like that I trim the hunk down with a modeling knife (TRIM, don't try to cut it off), or maybe sand it a bit with a HAND sanding block.  Then later in the day or the next morning I pull it off.

Sometimes you can't sand it off if you glue fingers together. I find acetone works better than nitro. Soak a Q tip in acetone and keep pulling the edge as you keep it wet. Don't pull too hard and rip the skin. Takes a few minutes but it works.

Next time try a fingernail file instead of the belt sander. Not near as much chance of getting a new nickname like Nubby, Klutzo or my personal favorite Three Finger Jack.  Where I work they call me Dangit but I don't wanna talk about it:-)

I had a nearly full bottle of thin "buildit" that got stuck in my hand....thing is, I fell backwards on my stool, and was grabbing everything trying not to break the part I was gluing. Well, I couldn't get the bottle out of my hand...all 4 fingers and my thumb were stuck. This would never have happened if the applicater tip hadn't come off....talk about getting hot...!!! After I finally got to my feet, I straight away got my other hand stuck. I started to pry my shoe off....then I thought better of it. We used nearly a whole bottle of my wife's fingernail polish remover before the plastic turned loose. The whole label was stuck in my right palm. LL~
