Neptune Motor Mounts
« on: May 05, 2006, 06:55:41 AM »
I am getting ready to start on the Neptune and am curious regarding the motor mounts.  The plans show 1/2"x1/2".  That seems a bit large to me.  Is this correct?  They also appear to be cut to allow for a few degrees of engine offset?  Any help or advice is appreciated.

Thanks ;)

Hi Z.

The extension will be on the way tomorrow.  Remember, you will not need it for the OS 32F.  From what I remember, the 32F and the Fox 35 w/extension fit in pretty much the same place except for NVA location.

As to the Maple Mounts, I will check my plans to night.  !/2 X 3/8ths should be more than adequate.  I undercut the mounts 1/8th where the tank will go leaving them 3/8ths square there.  y1

Let me check tonight!

Z   Are you building the classic Neptune from 1955? If you are your plans show the wrong size mts. I have seen the original plane many years ago and the largest they used were 1/2x3/8. Some people back then even used 3/8x 3/8 for a Fox .35

I have a set from Flying Models.  I am not at home right now, but feel certain they are 1/2"x1/2".  I would rather use the 1/2"x3/8" mounts but was afraid it would make the fuselage narrower than the original.
