Need some trim help
« on: November 30, 2017, 07:07:11 PM »
Here is the info.
Plane is a Vector 40 - 52oz. (Might be the Fiberglass reinforced gear mount)
CG per Plans.
Engine is PA 40 UL on header.
TT 11x4.5.
Launch @ 9730
60ft clip to clip getting 5.2 laps.
Wings level.
Turns good both ways.
Does triangles good.
But when doing the hour glass the OB wing falls downward when giving up input for the last corner. I am trying not to bang it hard.

So I checked the flaps and notice that the OB flap was up about 1/8 in when I put the elevators to neutral. But when giving up that would give me a little more down deflection on the flap.???
I tweaked it to get it level.
I would have tested the adjustment but I bounce the landing and popped the gear rolling the gear under the wing punching two holes in the bottom and two holes in the top panels. 3rd darn time. I hate the way these gear are mounted.

If the flap is not the suspect, could it be too much tip weight?

You stated that the wings are level.

How did you determine that fact?

A spotter out side the circle.

Thanks Paul for the input

If you are SURE the wings are level, it is likely there is too much tip weight.

Of course, the leadouts could be too far aft, or there there could be not enough flap movement/area relative to the elevators, or the CG could be too far back.

Just a few things to check!

Good luck

Thank you sir! I will put this in my logbook and check and try these items once I get the gear back on.
It will be a few months before I get to fix this plane.
We are trying to move so I had to put my shop in storage along with most of my fleet. I held back a few profile planes and field box to get mix fix when I can.

You, too?  I’ve been moving for a year. We closed on the new place last December. I did take time out from moving to put in a flying circle and practice on it. Season’s over. We move the big stuff Monday.

Good luck Howard.
I moved the important stuff to my sons basement. I hope we can get a new home with a shop in the backyard. I know we won't have a flying circle in the backyard. 🙃

I wouldn't recommend aiming at 52 ounces for that plane, but I've got a 54 ounce Fancherized Twister that flies surprisingly well.

When you get out flying next, pay close attention to the corners in the square maneuvers -- if it's misbehaving badly in the hourglass, it's probably misbehaving slightly on every square corner.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.
