Hi Bob
Jena was East German (Carl Zeiss, same people that do optics)
I don’t know about Sesquy, but Sesqui is Australian
Tono, Jene, Letna and Vlatavan are Czech
Sabre, Glo Chief and Flight are Australian (the Flight 61 was a rebranded Taipan 61 for the US market)
Rivers is British
Cheers
Steve

Lewis, Marvin, Lucas Smith, and Bond are USA
See if John has the American Model Engine Encyclopedia, Volume I and 2. You can identify all US and Canadian engines withnthem

Bill & Steve - thanks for the info.
It really helps.
Here are some more - ALL DIESELS

Jaskolka: Polish
Elfin: British (except for Australian, Chinese and Russian replicas)
Wilo: East German
WB: Brazilian (I’m assuming it’s a WB250)
OTM: Russian
AH: probably Arne Hende of Sweden. He made mainly replicas and miniatures of other makes.
BWM: German
MAP: does it say ‘MAP3’? If so, it’s ‘Marz’ in Cyrillic - a fairly common Russian engine
Micro: American
AMCO: British
Bonner: should probably be ‘Bonnier’ - if so, French
KMA: probably really KMD (the Cyrillic thing again). Russian
I think that Star might be Russian, but I can’t remember for sure. If you’ve got some photos of ‘j’, ‘R’ and ‘Xaplkob’ we should be able to work out what they are.
Cheers
Steve

Star is Moldovan, and ‘XAPLKOB’ is Cyrillic for ‘Kharkov’ in the Ukraine. Sorry, I don’t know what ‘R’ and ‘j’ are!

Hello I know the J one its a Cippolla Junior from Italy
Have you got any New Zealand made engines?
I.E. Katipo, Pepperell or Westland
Regards Gerald

"R"
The R is Russian , RJL or Carlson sold them back in the 90's. The backplate was not screwed or bolted onto the case and it was a somewhat loose press fit. I never head of anyone ever getting one of these to run. I had one never tried to start it.
For got to mention the name of the engine. It was called Zeus

Hi.
The engine in the picture is the diesel version of the Cipolla Junior 1.5 cc (J = Junior) of the Cipolla brothers
Made in Italy in the 80s.

Hello Massimo
I had a Cipolla Junior Diesel and 2 of the glow versions of it too and they seem very well made like most Italian engines are.
On a non aeromodelling note but still Italian we have a air-cooled Same Delfino 35 tractor that is terrific , really enjoyable using it in the field or mowing the circles.
So much power for its weight and well made with a nice distinctive sound to it, as it is 2 cylinder air-cooled diesel engine and very different to our John Deere.
Regards Gerald :)

Hi, Gerald.
I checked but I couldn't find any engines from New Zealand.
But, there are still many to sort out!
So far, I have over 800 on display.

Hi Gerald.
Careful to say Cipolla Junior Glow, because the versions were 2: STD and Contest.
The tractor is OK.

Hello Massimo
The Cipolla Junior Glow's I had were the standard version with the small heads.
I really like the look of The Cipolla Master 2.5 combat engine they were so neat!
I think Cipolla still making engines for cars ?

Hi Bob
Sure is a lot of engines you have but they are so addictive once you get started on collecting them.
New Zealand produced a good number of engines before the 1970's but nothing like Gordon Burford did in Australia
I tell myself I do not need anymore but some just tickle your fancy too much ! ;).
Just hope I can build enough models to enjoy using more of mine.
My sons may choose to flog mine all off but hopefully there is still a chance they will value or even use some of them. ???
I wish you well sorting out your collection
Regards Gerald

Hi Gerald
At the moment no CIPOLLA engines are produced anymore, but there is some link with the VEGA brand dedicated to the Off-Road.
Gino Voghera a few years ago was dedicated to Pylon engines (DKT) and some time ago I met Andrea Rossi who is currently out of the production world.

The STAR diesels were made in Germany by Star Modelle Eric Spivey K.G. in Knittlingen-Württenberg, circa 1956 to 1960, and related to the JAGUAR engines. Another obscure German Diesel was the COMET looking a bit like the British AMCO 3.5 BB
