Need some help with the IMITATION flap dimensions...
« on: February 26, 2014, 11:42:25 AM »
I have almost completed work on my Imitation by Ted Fancher but have some way lost my plans and still need to build the flaps.  If anyone has the plans for the IMITATION, I would certainly appeciate you giving me the following dimensions on the flaps.  The Imitation was built with the ability to lengthen or shorten the flaps using a wire if I remember correctly.  I am looking for the SHORTEST dimension shown on the plan for the operating inboard and outboard flap.

1.  The length of the Inboard and Outboard flaps.

2.  The root and tip chord (width) of the inboard and outboard flaps

3.   The thickness of the flaps...

Thanks so much for any help you can give me.

Is this the kit that UHP offered for a while?

I have the kit.  I don't know if the dim's would be the same.  Wasn't that Ted's design?  Maybe he will chime in.

Mike, just for kicks and giggles, I measured my plans.  The inboard flap measures 2 5/16" at the root and 1 1/8" at the tip.  A note on the plans says both flaps are the same length.  I measured 24 5/8".

There is a short stationary dummy flap at each tip that I didn't measure.  Also the root of the flaps is swept away from the fuselage at the trailing edge.  The root dim I gave was actually measuring along that angular edge.

The flaps are made from 1/4" balsa.  Hope this helps.  Some research on this forum turned up a post that said both the AMA plans and the UHP plans are about the same.

Good Afternoon Mike;

  Can't vouch for the accuracy of these, and lots may end up 'lost in translation' as you attempt to scale up and convert from metric, but...

Dick and David

Thank you very much for both of you taking the time to do that for me.  I really do appreciate it.  I started this plane months ago and got distracted doing some other things.  I had the fuselage finished, the wing finished (except for the flaps) and the stabe and elevator finished.  All I need to do is build the flaps, put it together and cover it.  I will post some pictures when I have it together...

Hmmm. Just meassured my plans, albeit from the UHP kit of the Imitation and the flaps are 24 1/2 inches long, root is2 3/16" and the tip is 1 5/16".
I will say this, this is the absolute best flying profile I have ever flown and I've flown dozens over the years. Even better than  the TEOSAKI.  H^^

I have the same plans.  I'll have to measure again.  One of us is off a bit.
