Need some computer help
« on: May 28, 2010, 06:44:22 AM »
I,m using a Toshiba "Satelite L305-S5968" Laptop. I bought a Phoenix flight simulator - When I tried to install it the computer said I need "MIcrosoft DirectX9 or higher". My question is what is it, and how do I get it? Thank you. Oh, and this is my 1st computer and I really don't know what I'm doing with it. LOL. I do know how to use a slide rule but thats not much help anymore.      Nick

Don't feel lonesome.  There's a bunch of us that don't know all that is needed to know about these electronic boxes.  I have trouble sending pictures on E-Mail and sometimes receiving them.  Best bet is go back to where you got the lap top if it was a local computor store.  My lap top need one of those $150.00+ batteries before I can take it on the road.  Even at that the card for interface with other computor bases it needs a different card that is boo koo bucks.  So it stays in the shop on the power cord.  Hope you get yours figured out. Direct X 9 is a free download from Microsoft.  Use the link above and use the run or open from the box that will pop up when you click on the download link.  It will download and install and work just fine.  It will not hurt your computer, and the program you are wanting to install will see it on the computer and then should run.

Best of luck and let us know if it worked for you.

Did DirectX seem to install, or do you think you just downloaded it?  Microsoft is pretty good about installing its own software to a Windows machine.

You may want to call Phoenix tech support -- they're there for things like this.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

I just put Phoenix on my laptop about an hour ago and when it wanted an upgrade to DirectX9 a pop-up box came up on the screen and asked if I wanted to download and install it.  Did not have to go back to MS to download and install, went right through from Phoenix.  Yours should have also as everyone that I know that has Phoenix gets the same pop-up.

Did that on both my desktop and laptop both.  Bad thing was that I already had DirectX 10 on the desktop.  No big deal though as I am not a gamer so 9 is fine.
