To replace the screws with socket heads...use 5-40's. Most of the tuners do. Any industrial fastener store should have them or be able to get them in short order. If you want, McMaster-Carr will work. Once replaced, they'll outlast the engine. Apparently, the 3mm x .6mm "standard" that ST and OS used in the '60's is no longer standard...3mm x .5mm is. Most .60/.61's are .945" bore, so most any of their head gaskets will probably fit. I'd look for OS .60FP or K&B .61 stuff. Fox .60's were .906" bore, so probably wouldn't fit. Anybody can make a backplate gasket out of almost anything, like a 3 x 5 file card, manila envelope, or plastic milk jug.
If you want genuine stuff, ask Randy Smith, Tom Lay, or Frank Bowman. I have email addys for all of them, and can probably dig up phone numbers for Randy and Tom. Frank has a "forum" down in the Vendor's secton...you have to login to see any of them. D>K Steve

I'm neither a "collector" or worry about using something different. When an engine needs rework I either retap for 4-40 or 6-32, or larger, and use socket heads to do the hold-it job. Gaskets are so easy to make out of pop/beer cans and last forever. Good scissors, X-acto blades and I'm in business. Cut the inside holes first. Then usually just need to punch screw holes with knife tip, fit and then smooth, then trim off outside excess. Werks fer me.

Try making a cylinder base gasket for a Johnson or Torpedo.

5-40s work perfectly with no retapping required in the ST46. I certainly wouldn't recommend 6-32s because that will almost certainly end up going through the casting at some point and creating a leak. 4-40's are too small and will strip the holes.

I've made some for the McCoy Redheads using the thicker cork gasket material from the auto parts store. For the thinner metal gaskets I use the gasket cutter from "Lees Machine Shop". Check Vendors Corner. H^^

I retaped for 6-32 on all the ST/46's I worked on. Never had a problem in 25 years. The original head gasket is very thick, maybe .020" I also tap the center hole in the exhaust post 6-32 so a muffler can be attached there. I agree that 5-40 is the way to go if a complete rebuild in not being done. I made head gaskets just like described above out of .005" soft aluminum and the back plate gasket out of a magazine cover. Do not use anything thicker as it will allow the rod to walk back and forth on the crank pin. This is a very common mistake many make.

Whenever I'm looking for another ST 46, I go to Ebay..... have seen many packaged ST bolt sets and gasket sets by just searching Super Tigre... seem to be lots of parts there... just FYI
