Title: Need Full Pattern Instructional Video
Post by: Brendan Eberenz on February 20, 2020, 10:18:54 AM
Hey everybody. Until a few years ago I had never touched a Control Line plane. I am still fumbling to complete my first Outside Loop, but my 9 year old seems to have the Beginner Pattern down pretty good. With that said, I was wondering if anyone can hook me up with a good instructional video on the Full PAMPA Pattern. I was given a VHS, but would rather work with a DVD or online video. While I have loosely reviewed written material on the full pattern, that doesn't necessarily capture a 9 year old's attention. Also, since I don't know how to execute the pattern from experience, it's not like I can go to the field with him and walk him through it. A good instructional video walking us through each stunt is what I am looking for. From there I hope to have us practicing in the living room until flying weather comes around. Thanks.

I like Shug's videos, the full catalog.  This one does have instructional narration.

You might find Keith Renecle’s simulation helpful as well. It’s silent, so no explanation of the maneuvers, but as fine a pattern as I have ever seen.
You have to go to Control Line stuff, download CL Sim-1, unzip, and run it on a Windows computer.

Brendan,

Below is a great video for learning the pattern, the tracer shows path of model .. It helps to memorize the pattern by remembering what maneuver is next .

Hey folks. Thanks for all of these helpful videos. This was exactly what I was looking for. I especially like the one with the tracer lines. It really helps visualize some of the shapes. Thanks again. See you at the field. - Brendan and Angstrom

WOW!  Mr. Davis, I really like that one.  Do you know how were the tracer lines applied to the video?

Might be a great way to judge flights at the national level.

Automatic smoke generator. It activates with any deviation from level flight.

L.O.L.!!  That's kool!  I have an automatic smoke generator … mine usually activates as soon as it performs a Figure 9  LL~ LL~   I recently received a letter from the Unites States Geological Survey stating that they were looking into charging a fee because of my repeated setting off their seismic monitors!!   %^@5%^@ LL~ LL~ LL~

Presented something like that ' shreck ' thing , makes it televisable . Presented right  ( cool calm collected & the tension , or hysteria , yelling & panic  LL~)

would be comprehendable to Joe Average . With all this R T F & electrickery , a ' master ' & ' pro ' tournament would be feasable.

Just got get it more up market than Golf etc .  ;D :-X

Hi There, Several years ago I helped to produce a "Flying The Patterns" video with Big Art Adimissin. This production features excellent graphics and instruction on performing the Beginner, Old time, and PA Patterns with commentary by Art. I have found this disk to be most helpful to my own self help and practice over the years. In addition I suggest that you veiw the "At The Handle" forum on this site for live help and answers to your many questions. I continue to sell this program for $20.00 + postage. I accept PayPal. Let me know by PM if interested. This video also presents active flying of the patterns as well as commentary and graphics.

Phil I appreciate your support. It funny you mention the "Flying The Patterns" video, because I got it on loan from Bill's Hobby Shop when I ordered some Twisters from him. My son and I got out our old VCR around Thanksgiving just to watch it, but have since packed away the VCR. It was a VERY helpful and thorough video. However, since I'm living in boxes as we prepare to move it has been a while since we've seen the video and without being able to practice here in the winter, a lot of the material left our minds and the streaming videos people posted here in response is more accessible in the moment. But for anybody new to flying I second your recommendation to get the "Flying The Patterns" production. It is more descriptive with lots of detail. Thanks.
