Need a price for a Brodak .061
« on: March 05, 2019, 12:50:35 AM »
Hi all.  I am wanting to sell a Brodak .061, new in box, but have no idea what its worth.  The Brodak site no longer lists them, so I don't even know where to begin.  Any help would be much appreciated. H^^

Is it the Mk 1 or 2? Mk 1 has an aluminum fin unit, 2 has the head screwed on.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Hi Larry.  Do you mean the head is bolted on for the mkII?  There are no visible head bolts.  I think the whole head is screwed on as I don't see any other way for it to be held on.  Also, if this means anything, the head is anodised a very light red colour.

Hi, Glenn - you have the MK I.
Sadly, there were some issues with the 049 and 061 that led John to discontinue them.
We then developed the MK II series, made by the same people who make the 15, 25 and 40.
No known issues with the MK II.
Your engine retailed for $69.99.

You have a Mk 1. Simple modification makes it a much better engine.

Stage 1 is to remove the plug, remove the aluminum head unit. Drill out the. Plug hole with an “R” drill. Use the fin unit to clamp a Merlin glowhead in place.

Stage 2 is to buy the Galbreath fin/Nelson style plug system. Now the engine will really sing.

Hi, Larry - good points ----BUT, you need a well fit engine to start with.
Many of the CS (blue and red cylinders) arrived with either no compression or so much pinch that they could not turn over.
The big problem was inconsistency with the piston/cylinder fits.

I still have the original prototype and it's a fine engine.

One idea is to photograph the engine, then set it out for auction on eBay, starting at $0.01.  One of the benefit of that process is that you don't have to research prices, and the item is told within a specific timeframe.

Yes the Ebay fees are an unwanted fee for selling something at times.   But, I have had items go for much more than I thought an item was worth which more than off set the fees.  A lot depends on what is being sold and when.  As any auction business you need the right time and of the course the people that want an item.  I spent a few years with Dad and my uncle at sales and we watched live stock that the poor owner took a beating and others wore more than happy with results.   My best buy as a teenager was winning bid on a single shot 4-10 shot gun.   Was great for hunting in close quarters.  Mother could make very tasty fried rabbit in season.
