I would post more pictures now if we had a good internet connection. Just waiting for a page to load takes a few min. I would shoot myself if I had to deal with this on a daily basis. Worse then dialup! ITS NOT THE FILE EXT. Its bandwidth

Crist,
Dan Bregar took 1st in Open Beginner with an electric Magician. I also saw an electric Banshee in Beginner. Jeff Traxler has an electric Pathfinder he flew in Intermediate. I may have missed a few between trying to keep out of the sun and staying hydrated.

Ryan Young gave me the results to the top 10 of classic to post on here.  I also heard from Eric Viglione that it was hot and windy once again today.  Most of the top guns, according to him, passed their 2nd round flight if they had a good enough 1st round flight.

That is a good point. I am now 1500 miles closer yet , I still couldn't make it. But I am working on it, that's for sure. My date with the L pad is a top priority.

What is the "L pad" ?

A flash flood/rain cleared out the gazebo where the first day scores were posted. I'll figure out a way to iphone pics of those results tomorrow when the papers get stuck back up. Stunt heaven for the early flights. Stronger breeze later in the morning. Darn good flying weather for the most part.

On the way out from Philly, I got 39 something in my plain Civic with no batteries. It's a 2011. ( I hate electric.) My 2009 did 42. Crushing disappointment. However, since June 2012 the air conditioner has been blasting. Did so every mile of this trip. Maybe that accounts for the diff... Young Daniel (Banjok) got pissed off at my mileage discussions. Guess his van, stuffed with the objects of his cluttered mind, didn't fair as efficiently.

Hi Doug,

There are four paved circles all on asphalt poured in an "L" shape.  Three in a row and one to the right. (looking from the other three).

Are there really people who actually LIVE in USA complaining about the distance to Muncie?
I start clapping thinking how close I am when I fly into LAX !

Having said that - I do understand 2500 + mile drives are not enjoyable.

If It means that much to go to the US Nats ( like it does to me ) build a take apart model, book an airline ticket.
Work prevented me this year.

Dont forget to check out the AMA Website - The Nats Newsletters are almost as good as being there.
Allen Brickhouse has been putting in the hard yards with writing and photographs of most of C/L activities. Its about as Up-todate as one can get.

That is how I am planning to go. Build a take apart, convince Howard to haul it to Muncie in the back of his Prius, then fly and rent a car.

Just throw it on a plane with you. Your allowed 2 bags !

At worse $200 excess baggage charge.

But.. I don't do alot of Domestic USA travel, perhaps they are more forgiving to the International traveller.

PJ,

You are from Australia so they don't give you a hard time. They only hassle you if you are an American citizen. If I tried to take a box with a plane in it on an airplane, I would expect to be strip searched, held by TSA without bail and questioned under hot light with rubber hose involved. Or maybe nothing would happen. That's the problem, you never know. I'd be happier if I could just throw the box in the back of Howard's car and avoid the TSA shakedown.

Oh dont get me wrong - I went through that with the TSA also - Was taken out the back in Chicargo on the way to Indy, they had 3 guys - 1 heavy ! and they took swab samples of the plane, opened it up took it out - checked it over ( they were quite careful and nice about it ) the plane failed every explosive test they did. However passed it - I had some letters explaining what they were and what fuel they were exposed to. This was signed and certified out here by an official of law.

At worse is was an extra 45 mins to my departure time. I have heard stories of others being denied access to board despite holding a ticket....

Hi Randy,

When we were seeing how to get to the team trials, fly there and borrow an airplane or drive and bring an airplane I was familiar with.  We added all the gas money we spent on the way to Muncie, and the price of the hotel we stayed at, and then compared it with two tickets to get to Indianapolis.  We found it was a mostly a wash and decided to drive.  If we we lived on the west coast, or the team trials were in Tuscon as it was a possibility,we either wouldn't have gone or chosen to fly.

When airline captains who are flying their own airline think it's impractical to fly cross-country to the NATs, I figure the rest of us don't have a chance. I only flew with an airplane box 3 times, but there was a problem all three times. I eventually got there but it was a nerve-wracking hassle.

Brett : I know of the exact incident your referring to.. about the airline captain!

As far as I'm concerned coming from Australia was no issue - Having said that - LAX to Chicargo is always a bit of a "suck it and see". Wont prevent me from coming next year.

I agree. For me, I don't think I would be flying anywhere to a contest in the US, unless I had a plane waiting for me when I got there.

Non-revenue flying SUCKS. (period). It can take an entire day and 2 or 3 missed flights before you get half way across the country. Even if you have a discounted ticket your still the first to get bumped off an over-booked flight. Your also fodder for a public TSA search and molestation - they love Airline employees. As a 30+ yr. Airline employee, when I go on vac... I drive.

But states that they will NOT post any scoring.

I see Paul W. has gone back to the original Impact bird with a GEO wing, electric, and (could be just the pic I saw...) maybe a larger stab.?

Now guys have done it.   In the NATS News it was stated that no scores would be posted because the judges read the NATS News and the forums.   I hope they have enough judges left after today that will be honest enough to say they have not seen scores of any kind so far for the final rounds and the top five, plus the Walker Cup.    VD~

Hey Doc,

I think you are reading too much into this.  Tomorrow is a new contest.  The scores and the relative rankings of today are now meaningless.   All the judges know is that the people they see tomorrow have made the top 20.  Their scores today have no bearing on what happens tomorrow.

You don't think the scores of the last two days will have an influance on the judges?   I liked the judge that after the contest I competed in one year, asked me if I flew that day. H^^
