NATS Beginner Stunt – July 9, 2023

Hello all,

We would like to invite you to join us at the 2023 NATS for Beginner Control Line Stunt Contest on Sunday, July 9, 2023.  There will both Jr/Sr (for teens - combined) and Adult levels.  John Paris has kindly arranged for AMA/PAMPA Plaques for 1st – 3rd for both the Jr/Sr (combined) and Adult levels.   The winner of each level will get the traditional “Eagles Nest Trophy” to take home for the year.

Although this is NOT an official AMA event, the AMA requires that each Contestant, Pit Person (mechanic) Volunteer register with them at the main building.  All Contestants must be an AMA member and will need their 2023 AMA Card with them at registration and again at the flying field.

We plan on using Circle #2 for Beginner Stunt and #3 for Intermediate Stunt.  Practice will start at 7 am on the grass circle.  Registration will be 8 am.  For adults, there will be a $10 registration fee.  For Jr/Sr Contestants, this fee is waived.  The Pilot Meeting will be held at 8:30 am.  Official flights will start about 9 am.

All Models must have your AMA Number displayed.  All models will be weighed and pull tested to AMA standards.

All handles will have a Safety Thong and Contestants will use them while the model is in motion.  Electric Powered Models will be held from the time the motor is armed until Contestant signals to release, but only after the Safety Thong is placed on the wrist of the flyer.  The Safety thong will remain on until the Electric motor is disarmed or the model is again held by an assistant.

There will be up to three attempts for two Official Flights with a 6-minute limit for each flight.  The Beginner Pattern and rules are available on the AMA web site.

If someone wishes to fly yet has not mastered the Beginner Pattern, there is "Basic Flight".  I can send you the Basic Flight Pattern Sheet for you to prepare.  Each contestant that flies Basic Flight will get a Basic Flight Certificate.

We will take pictures of each contestant with his model before the flying starts and of both the group and winners with models after the flying is over.  After the awards, we will make donated prizes available for Contestants to choose with the Jr/Sr going first, then adults.  There may be kits, engines, fuel and many other items to choose from.  These items are donated by both businesses and individuals that support Control Line Stunt and wish it to continue to grow.

If you have any items that will help a Beginner Stunt Flyer, they would be greatly appreciated.  You can bring them to the contest or get them to me beforehand.  If you are able to put a label on them with your name and contact information, it would make things easier.  If you are a Contestant, it is important that you reach out to the person that donated the item to let them know that the donation is appreciated.

Also, we still need volunteers for sign in, weigh in, pictures, pull test, runners, judges, a “pit boss” and perhaps an Assistant to help run the “Three Ring Circus”.   I will also need help organizing the donated items and awards.  If you are able to help, please contact me.

Thank you,

Michael Stinson
