Title: Nats 2024: End of Qualification Rounds
Post by: John Paris on August 07, 2024, 03:16:40 PM
Everyone,
Made it through Qualifications.  Attached in the next few posts are the results.  Do not pay too much attention to the placings as only the Qs are important right now.  Will strive to understand how those numbers were derived and explain later.

I made a short run to Muncie Sunday afternoon/evening with my son Sean and grand daughter and spent Monday and a better part of Tuesday hanging out and spectating. The L-pad looks great and so did the grass circles and made me wish I had taken an airplane to fly!! Monday  conditions for the unofficial events were decent with  some steady wing and a few models were lost. Tuesday was pretty windy and the early slots probably had the best of the conditions. I think most pilots got their first round in but many took a pass on the second. I don't recall any crashes.

Lots of familiar faces that I was able to say hello to and talk to a while that made me glad I made the trip. It has been 22 years since I was there last when Sean and I made a early morning dash there so he could enter Senior stunt to sort of finish off his childhood!! We pulled up just as they were calling him for his first official, so no practice, just went right at it. He finished second I think, and a couple of years later he was off to basic training. I got to see Bart Kaplinsky, and Jim Hoffman and several others from out west and many more than I can remember right now. We have met a lot of people and made a lot of friends over the years of participating in this hobby and it was so much fun seeing them all again! I need to get my act together and get back out on the road to the few contests that are left while I still can and make some more memories.

The weather cooled off as we came into the St. Louis area Tuesday evening and was cloudy and much cooler Wednesday morning, and Muncie got the same from what I have seen. I think the conditions for the remainder of the event should be acceptable and might stay cooler for them on through next week for the WC events. Good luck to everyone still flying, have a safe finals and WC events, and everyone have a safe trip home.

   Type at you later,
   Dan McEntee

Go Christophe, Go!!

I had the good fortune to judge Christophe at VSC in the late 90s.
He flew a Grundal Nobler.
A truly AMAZING pilot.

Did you see Sparky and Jim Lee?

I most certainly did! I see Sparky more often now that he has moved back here. I also bug Jim on the phone and by text/email fairly often, but always better in person!!
