Nat's Pictures

I managed to squeeze off a few shots while running around like the proverbial chicken sans head... Not much of a theme, just some random shots I took from where ever I happened to be at the time and thought came out OK. Might take a few posts to get them all up. No slight intended if I left people out, just grabbed what I could. Some in telephoto spy mode too, heh...
EricV

First pic is Dereks Evolution
Second is Bill Richs latest SV
Third is Gordon getting a launch from David
Fourth is the king of fun, The Daniel
Fifth is Orestes having a pow wow...
Sixth is Daniel T/O

Big gaping hole in my pictures on Advanced finals day... can't imagine why... heh.

Open finals day:

First Ryan doing his thing
Second Doug & Steve about to take an attempt, but I still thought it was a nice shot...
Third Grandpa Wayne and bro Jim watch Sam in Jr flight
Fourth Derek getting launch from Pops and fine tuning
Fifth Derek's away on T/O
Sixth Paul F making a T/O that might rattle John Miller (heh, just teasing you John)
Seventh Dougie showing where bottoms should be
Eighth David F signal
Ninth Josias launching Orestes, who drew 5, 5, and 5 for ping pong balls...

That's about it for now.

Great Shots! Much appreciated. Bill Richs SV11 is the most impressive I have seen. All in all, this group of planes in open must have been the best, as a group, ever at the nats. Ed

There are two outstanding pictures from the 20009 NATS. One is this one of Doug.

Eric, I hope that you submit this to the Stunt News editor (Bob Hunt) in full definition, I agree with Brad, it could be a cover shot.

The other outstanding picture is Bob Storick's picture of Windy preparing for a flight... Sparky please send this to Bob Hunt in full definition.

I was thinking submit it to John for CLW, but to each his own.

I think Brett is thinking while launching Dave's plane.......Boy I'm launching for the "World Champ"  if I can get upwind fast enough maybe I can pick up some pointers for my own pattern!

I remember Dave's very first Nats win.  He was flying a practice flight and all the Japanese team was watching sitting next to me.  Every time Dave finished the backside of a triangle they all ooohed and ahhhed exactly together.  The last corner of his triangles were that good!

At the pilots briefing, one of the powerpoint slides dealing with the daily schedule noted that after stunt flying was done for the day, flying free flight with Banjock was an option.  Dutifully following the schedule, we checked out what Dan was up to.  The cheer from the spectators as the model took flight reminded me of the cheer from the stranded guys of Flight of the Phoenix as Jimmy Stewart finally gets the engine going on the next to last cartridge!

Dan readies the Cox .010 for flight

Dan launches the free flight space shuttle

More tweaking is required.

It works!

A very majestic model to behold in flight.  Dan got several awesome flights that evening.

Interesting historic marker I saw on the way home from the Nats.  I remembered reading the story of the wreck as a kid, but it never occured to me I was going to be driving right near the site on the way home.  I had just parked at the rest stop, looked up, and saw this sign.

Well,

Watching Dave's pattern couldn't hurt too much?  ???  Could it?  We know your plane doesn't fly like his though, right?  VD~
enough..........

This might be my favorite pic I took at Muncie.  Banjock's free flight space shuttle goes out of control and roars back through the crowd of unlookers.  If you look in the lower right of the picture you can just see the top of Dennis Moritz's hat as he hits the deck!

Dan is more fun than anyone else I know. Before I moved to Texas, we used to fly 2 BiSlobs together. This was long before it became a kit, just after we published the article in FM
