Do you mean the Whittier Narrows? If so, it is in the North West Quadrant of the 60 (Pomona) Freeway and Rosemead Blvd (Highway 19).

Here's a link to a map: http://www.lamountains.com/parks.asp?parkid=661

Ahh, no, Tacoma narrows and actually know where the bridge is, but where do folks fly?

Jack's from Edmonds, WA, so I'd guess "Tacoma Narrows Airport" is his end goal. But thanks for the Whittier info...

Regarding "TNA"...here's a map. Drive So. on I-5 to Hwy. 16 and head West. When you approach the Narrows Bridge, you need to be in the right lane and take the first exit after you're across. Turn left, then left again, then right, then left....pass the tower and restaurant, and turn off at the last access gate. Then...you need the gate code...which isn't public knowledge...so you need to meet somebody there who has the code.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Gig+Harbor&state=WA&cat=Tacoma+Narrows+Airport&country=US&latitude=47.329399&longitude=-122.578903&geocode=CITY

The bad part is that getting back to I-5 is typically a horrible drive, due to construction on Hwy. 16 near I-5, and I-5 can also be a stop & go mess in Tacoma. For this reason, most have been flying at "TMF" or "The Mattress Factory", which is in NW Sumner, just off Hwy. 167. Call me if you want to go!  425-255-1887   D>K Steve

Jack...Just got a call from Pete Peterson...the plan is to meet there at 10:30am today. The problem is that they're not sure if the flying spot will be free of 1:1 Scale planes. The site is on the very south end of the ramp. The weekend spot is in the corner closest to the taxiway. The weekday spot is full of tiedowns, gravel and weeds, so I'm not keen on that nonsense. Also not keen on driving over to TNA to find that there's no place to fly. Randy, Schultzie and Covey live or work on the peninsula, so it works a lot better for them. I'm gonna wait for a call, or just go to TMF with somebody.

Hey, is your email current?  ??? Steve

Donnie...Youse forgot Rex Abbott, newest NW Skyraider. Lives in Sequim (the 'e' is silent!).  I brought along one of my canoeing/shooting buddies...Steve Cordes. He used to fly CL with Al Culver and Brian Mace. You remember Al Culver from the model shop at Boeing?

Maybe worth mention, Mike's ol' "JD Falcon" is sporting new, longer LG struts, allowing the use of the 12.25 x 3.75 APC. He likes it. Hey, Mike...my Olympic needs longer LG struts, too... ;D Steve

Yep, the engine is fried. Looks like I sucked something up. Huge score (and I mean HUGE) in the piston. You can see it through the exhaust port. Will need at least a new piston and sleeve. Maybe more. Hope Dub Jett has some around. At least the plane flies pretty well.

That Hurricane Ridge picture was taken from the park at the top of the hill above Port Angeles. If you look the other way, you see the Straits of Juan de Fuca and Vancouver Island. Very cool spot. and the weather looks just about like that right now.

Pete, Mike and I flew again today at "TMF"...The Mattress Factory, in Sumner. Pete keeps complaining about his engine runs...but they always seem fine to the rest of us. Mike has his JD Falcon flying better and better, with longer LG legs and bigger pup-peller. I'm not sure who all's going to VSC from this area, but it looks like the ones that live part time in Tucson, plus Peterson, McClave and Powell.  Mike and I are giving it a pass this time. Mike is planning on going to the NATS in July.

I did a couple of (crappy) square vertical 8's and got away with it... n~ Steve

Mike's "been back to wurk" for about 3 weeks now. I have not heard anything about an intent to go to VSC.

TMF has about the same wind problems as TNA....if the wind is light, it's ok. I had two flights today (1st and 4th) that were in very calm conditions. Sometimes I did consecutive tricks on opposite sides of the circle. It would have been no fun for a contest, but it was ok for practise. My 3rd flight showed a bit of turbulence off the warehouse to the South, but not turrible (sic). It's usually ok, Schultzie, so bring out your planes and have some fun with us! I've got a NoblARF you could put together...  VD~ Steve

Actually I've been back to work for five weeks now and decided to take the trip.  I need to visit my niece in Tempe and some friends in Eloy but then I'll be in Tucson for VSC.

JD Falcon is really improved since the rebuild and larger prop, (12.25 x 3.75 APC).  I'll bring the Freedom 45 along just because.

I'm sending the engine off for repairs tomorrow. Looks like a new rear bearing, piston and sleeve. Sigh.... Either a broken wrist pin keeper or a piece of bearing got caught between the piston and sleeve. Big, huge, gigantic slice in piston and sleeve. Sigh again...

Yea, I can't wait to go to VSC. This short respite from rain is tough when you look at the coming weather.   ;D

I guess you have to enjoy it while you have it.

Have fun in Hawaii. It's a nice place to forget there IS weather.
