Name pronunciation
« on: October 25, 2021, 09:04:18 PM »
Several years ago, I ordered a set of Mustunt plans from Mr. Rabe, a modeling hero of mine.Along with my order, I asked him how he pronounced his name. His reply, written on the set of plans was “Rabe ,rhymes with baby”. I hope this clears it up with his fans!  Respectfully, Blaine

Thanks - I'm glad I can get it right from now on.  Being English and a (sort of) German speaker, I've always said "Rahb" (with a faint suggestion of an E on the end).
You want to make 'em nice, else you get mad lookin' at 'em!

Count me as a fan. Al would call me about once a month, start by chewing me out about something, I would argue with him, he would tell me some dirty jokes, really such a perfect "type", he was great. Reading his articles started me about thinking of stunt as an engineering exercise - even though a lot of the stuff he came up with was (probably) not quite right, or true only in a very narrow sense.

He also had a long-running feud with my surrogate big brother, Ted Fancher, and he may have been trying to get me to "switch sides", which was particularly absurd, but perfectly consistent with his view of the world - if it wasn't in the "Handbook for Naval Aviators" or he hadn't invented it himself, it was either unimportant, unnecessary, or wrong. He pissed me off on-line a few times, and I let him have it, but, he would still call.

The world is a lesser place with Al not in it.

I remember someone asking Bob Gesieke(sp) how to pronounce his name. The reply was "Bob".
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.

That was Bob LL~   He was the Yogi Berra of PA.  FYI it is "Gieseke".
