faint hearted should not look!
« on: June 08, 2021, 12:50:12 PM »
Mike McHenry and I went to AMA Sunday to do some more "tweeking" on our new stunt ships. daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.
The culprit was a striped out blue anodized ball joint link. I have used Du bro for 20+ years on all my RC and C/L airplanes and never had a failure before. Stupid me I changed and it cost me. They looked pretty but.................never again. Once again, "if it ain't broken don't fix it"
Guess I'll be flying my back-ship.

In the grand scheme of things, no big deal. My wife is recovering from 3 operation in 5 days and I broke a toy airplane, how can one feel upset?
See you at the Nats.
Blessings

Always a good idea to have that backup plane ready.  Glad to hear you can move forward.

Interested to hear if a jam nut was in use.  Recently I've heard that a jam nut cuts vibration which wears the threads.  Reminds a person of Alaska 261, a catastrophic thread failure.

Hi Peter.....that was me that mentioned it on FB.
The vibration over a LOT of flights caused the link to wobble and strip the threads off that soft Du-Bro rod......then the clevis slipped about 1/4" which caused a huge elevator trim change.
I missed the ground and landed safely but it was close.
This was an RC airplane with a 61 engine.
That larned me bout jam nuts!

Allen I hope the wife is doing better. I haven't talked to Mike due to all the rain but hate to see a failure and a crash. Hope all gets better.
