My Starfire kit survived!
« on: September 28, 2008, 07:47:11 PM »
After several days of working on the house pulling out wet carpet, soggy mattresses and all else building some serious muscle with all of it, I took a little break to do something dumb and non-essential yesterday and starting taking my Starfire kit out of the box to see how bad it was.  I knew it got soaked where it was, but it was also on top of some things so maybe it wouldn't be too bad.

Started pulling out all that nice light wood that still felt amazingly light.  A bit discolored in spots, but hey, this was looking like maybe more that just salvaging the CF gear and a few odd parts.  Hmm, all the bags of hardware were still sealed and dry, plans look like they never got wet and I kept pulling more and more light wood out of the box.  Some wood just a bit damp, but the weather was cooperating with some lower humidity and the house and my kit were drying out nicely.  Got everything out of the damp box and spread out on some dry empty shelves and will pick it up and bring it back with me possibly on the next trip.

As I kept pulling things out of the box I just kept getting more determined to get it going when I have the time which I don't know when it will be with all I have to do on the house now.  Give me a bit of time to get it built and painted and start looking for me on the Texas contest circuit and maybe beyond.  I guess it took Ike to put the bit between my teeth, but its firmly there now.

I know the Phoenix rose from the ashes to fly again so this isn't it.  No idea what to call this one that seemed to endure what Ike could throw at it and has come out of the flood.  I'll have to think about that and will take suggestions.
