Mac's pipes nolonger
« on: November 19, 2016, 11:25:27 AM »
Not sure how many of you guys out there knew or did business with Mac's pipes, but a close friend is a relative of Mac. He informed me that He passed away the other week. Many of the header mufflers and header pipes I have were from him.  Not much chance of any of the family members trying to keep the business going from what I was told. He was always very helpful and just up the street from me. Another loss to model aviation and of course the model race cars and boats that raced with his product installed.

That's sad news to many facets of modelling. There's a huge loss of knowledge, innovation, fabrication, and welding skills. Let's hope that the family can find a buyer to keep these products on the market. A quick tour of Tower Hobby's website might provide some potential buyers...other muffler manufacturers.  D>K Steve

My flying buddy "Brian Moore" from Elk Grove CA and I would visit with Mac several times a year on our fridays off. We would always ask if he would show us how he does what he does in making the different tuned pipes and header pipes etc. so the stuff could continue when he decided to hang it up. He would start to get grumpy and say he wasn't ready to give away his secrets. Stating maybe when he gets closer to death he would concider it. Well I guess his timing was off a bit. He never showed us anything nor would allow us to watch any of his techniques. Brian was seriously thinking of this as a job after he retires from the city water plant in 5 yrs. He used to run Mac's pipes when he was racing RC boats.  This is a Loss.

Studying the catalog, tooling and "stuff laying about" should make the fabrication part understandable. Welding that thin stuff takes a lot of practice and talent.  D>K Steve

Bummer.  I was going to place an order this week for my secret "Merry Christmas to me" gift.
I was planning on picking up one of the lightweight 1.5oz control line mufflers.

Laser-cut, "Ted Fancher Precision-Pro" Hard Point Handle Kits are available again.  PM for info.

I did alot of testing on the marine pipes when I was stationed out on the west coat for Mac when I was running riggers and monos many years ago.
Will miss him a lot.

Would be great if someone were able to rake up the shop and continue the product line.
