Title: My Slow Coach Spinoff
Post by: Gregory Hammond on October 14, 2014, 12:41:55 AM
This is my scratch built "slow coach" spinoff from this website

http://www.fuelsoaked.me.uk/ c/line project spinoffs

It is 35inches/890mm wingspan
OS Fp15 engine
home made uni-flow fuel tank
23oz/650g dry weight

Maiden once the weather stops being nasty :)

Looks nice - should fly well at that weight.  Glad to see you've wisely allowed for plenty of height adjustment in the tank mounting lugs - I bet it'll need to go up about an eighth of an inch to stop it running rich when inverted.  Look forward to hearing how she goes!

Successful maiden today, 5 flights in all :)

wonderful weather, little wind, 25c temp with lots of sunshine

First flight showed that the model was very nose heavy and slow to respond to elevator.. flew a nice and steady level flight
Removed the muffler! yup I was naughty but it improved the elevator response

Second flight I was able to fly inverted and showed the wings not level, high in normal flight, low inverted.
Tweaked the flaps slightly as well as taping a heavy coin the the outside wing.
Motor ran nicely inverted so no need to move the fuel tank, this was a nice surprise.

Third flight improved the wings level between inverted and upright.. getting happier!
But the elevator response was still slow, on landing I placed a lump of plasticine under the tailplane.

Forth flight was better, more responsive but I will need to move the CG further back

Fifth flight I moved the lead out guide slight more to the rear, better line tension...  happier now!

So I still have some tweaks and trimming to do, need to buy a fp15 tongue muffler :)

All up, not a bad model...  yup I am a happy little control line flier
