My planes also fly like dogs!
« on: July 07, 2016, 11:29:44 AM »
When I read the thread by Frank McCune below, it reminded me that many of my planes also fly like dogs and I'm wondering why?? Maybe the experts would like to comment. Maybe there are some clues from the photos below.

Keith,
I'd say you have a pack of hounds on you hands.

Here are a few more photo's. As you can see I carve my own Snoopy's from balsa. This time my painting was a lot more shaky with these old shaky hands. I left the balsa quite fuzzy as well as it looks more furry this way.

The finish on the Newtron 2 is rather dull because it came out like a brick at 1900 grams (67 oz.) I had wheel spats for it but left them off to save some weight. I used some clear on the fuselage and tail feathers but just a light coat. The wings were the real culprits and each half weighs 260 grams or so. I therefore used no clear on the wings. This is one of the benefits of e-power but it does not look nice when it's dull. I plan to build 2 more lighter wing halves and then I'll shine them up a bit. I should be able to knock off 80 grams at least. The heavy beast flew o.k. (not great!) in Australia and New Zealand but back home here at 5800 ft. asl. it is just too heavy!

Keith’s airplane is not the first to employ Snoopy as its pilot

Attached photos show Joe Reinhard’s 1978 model (wood prop) and my 2016 reproduction (3 blade carbon prop).

My Kraft Special was flown by Yosemite Sam, but I took him out after he crashed the plane. He hit his head on the dash in the crash and it knocked him out. I deemed him an unqualified pilot and revoked his FAA license.

Snoopy is real cool for you good guys!

Personally, I have always thought that the Crash Test Dummy should be in all my models.
