Title: My new shop going up!
Post by: Clint Ormosen on February 27, 2012, 09:39:38 PM
A few pics of my new 12x16 U/C stunter factory under construction. I had a crew come pour the slab (because it had to be pumped), but me and some buddies are doing everything else.

Clint,
You lucky dawg!!!!

I wish I had a hobby shop. I am just one step up from a card table.

That looks like it is going to be very nice.

Clint, it is looking great.   Don't know what you do for a living, but I learned a lot when I built mine.   Also remember to put all the electrical work in and have it inspected before putting up the insulation.   I thought the city inspector was going to make me take out all my insulatin that I had up.   Keep the pics coming. H^^

I'm looking at the pitch on the roof and wondering just how much snow you're getting ready for . . .  LL~ LL~

Great looking shop Clint, you will enjoy hours and hours in there.

Yup, that's what it's for. It looks nice too.

The tall roof is just for the storage loft.

When I first built my shop (actually a floor over the garage) I was amazed at having a place that was just a shop. Not a shop/laundry room or a shop/bedroom or whatever, but just a shop. It's a cool feeling.

Yeah, well that was me too. Jealous of everyone that had a "real" shop to build in. I had a "sort of" shop. 7' of the back of my garage is walled in giving a 7x20 shop. No good. The build table had to be against the wall and then you were practically standing with your back to the other wall. No storage to speak of. All my kits on a table at one end and a couple of shelves at the other end. Better than Mark S. has it but far from optimal.
It's going to rain here for a few days, so we'll continue building when it clears up.

Heck, put in a beer fridge, pizza oven and a shower and you can just stay out there! ;D

Oven and shower, probably not.

But a mini-fridge? Oh yes. It will happen.

I was talked into hooking up to my septic system and putting in a bathroom. I wasn't for it at first, but a year later I'm sure glad I have it. Forget the shower, but a handy potty is great.

When we moved out here, we were drag racing and were building a shop for the car. Sandy, came up with the idea of a full bath, so we could come out and work on the week ends, before the house was built. Then the project got out of hand, 60X40 netal building with a 20X60 carport, living quarters in one end, heat and A/C. We ended up living in the shop while the house was being finished.

Man, sounds like you don't need the house with that great shop! Reminds me of my friend Jim when he and his wife were looking for a new house; the realtor drove them to a house with an 8 car garage. Jim's only comment when they arrived was, "honey, I hope you like the house that's attached".

If I went crazy with all the stuff I'd like to have in it, there wouldn't be any room left to build a model. The features I'm leaving out are:
Bed
shower
toilet
movie screen (but I might have a small tv)
wet bar
couch
microwave/oven

But I will have heating/cooling, fridge, comfy chair, stereo.

Hi Clint,

Good for you! Looks like the work is moving right ahead. {I still have some of that
"ball bat" grade balsa I should send you for rafters..}

Did you explain to everyone (including the dog/cat) that leaving a handprint in the concrete
was signing a binding agreement to pick up sandpaper and help with certain models? ;->

Also, you'll need a 42" flatscreen out there, DVR and satellite dish, internet, laptop and webcam,
so we can check in on your progress periodically (without disturbing you by letting you know when
we're doing it, of course), etc.

Best regards,

L.

I just hope you can find a decent HVAC contractor in your area to handle the air-moving issues.

Have you considered having it consecreted as a church and seeking a property tax reduction? It already has the proper roof line. Some stained glass would be nice.

hope,
this will not get destroyed by Tornados !.

Tornadoes? In CA? I doubt it.

I have electricity, heat, air conditioning, coffee maker and juice jugs.   Don't ask about the juice jugs and I won't lie about them. LL~ LL~

Oh, pillows/blanket for the dogs.

There isn't any plumbing in the building and the house is 30 ft away. No problem.

A funnel through the wall with a drain hose leading to a flower bed will work just fine for the stand-up jobs (you are a "stand-up" kinda guy aren't you?). As an added benefit the "odor" will help keep the possums away.  Think ahead Clint, even though this is California and you have not tornado fears, it still might rain!! LL~  LL~ LL~
