My New Sakitumi Glow Power
« on: January 07, 2018, 09:41:51 AM »
About a year ago I finished my Sakitumi Electric, and it has become my go to plane in all respects. See here- https://stunthanger.com/smf/open-forum/builtright-flyright-sakitumi-e/msg507748/#msg507748 I decided not long after that it would be cool to have a glow powered version also, and put in my order with Walter. Not too long after, I got the kit. While other projects had to be cleared out,it was always in the back of my mind and about a month ago I cleaned off the bench and went for it. Just like the electric, it was a pleasure to build. Factory OS LA-S .46, APC 12.25x3.75 prop with a custom cut Dave Brown spinner. All iron on covering, rustoleum rattle can for the LG and wheel pants. Weight is 1 ounce less RTF than the E Version RTF. Balance is perfect. Can't wait to fly it!

Thanks guys. It's a Kraft/Hayes 6 oz tank. I'd show you pics of the tank mount, but it's kinda covered up by the tank. It is two rectangles of thin G10 fiberglass with separator pieces for the tie wraps to go through. The slots on either end allow it to be adjusted up and down. Allan, the Sakitumi was designed by Elliott Scott. The landing gear comes with the kit, I got the machine shop guy at work to put lightening slots in it.

The Red one is HK covering, the Green one is Ultrakote and Monokote. All work well, IMO.

Elliott Scott is the original designer and is well aware of what it takes to make this airplane fly well flaps or no flaps.  :)

I would think adding flaps would require a radical redesign of the wing structure.

MM

The Sakitumi flies an excellent pattern “as is” without flaps and its airfoil is designed with a very forward high point to ensure it doesn’t need them (the airfoil is inspired by full size aerobatic plane designs NACA 0016).

My old prototype Sakitumi has taken me up the ranks to first and second places. I use an LA 46 with 12.25 x 3.75 Prop, but a good 40 with a smaller prop will fly it well. If you can use a smaller prop than the 12.25 x 3.75 the corner improves even more than the “blinding” one a Saki can already do.

Walter Umland kits the design and also makes a 25 version for the LA 25, which I hope he will make more public (hint, hint).

Well, I got it out yesterday. Only got in one flight then the rain started, but damn it is awesome! Flies great, needs very little adjustment. I took a little weight out of the wingtip when I got home, and next time out I may move the leadouts forward a touch. It pulls pretty hard, but it isn't uncomfortable. Power is pretty similar to the electric. I am tickled with it!

The Sakitumi is a newer version of the Teosawki , hence the play on words with the name.

hello to all,
Just started to fly again. I am a glider guy.   For the elevator flaps and aileron's we use sealed hinges, no air can bleed  between the elevator (in this case) and the hinged part, and is therefor more deficient. Could this be used in a u-control?

Hi John, I don't think anyone has set up any rules that all Sakitumi's have to be done in clear or transparent covering/colors. But you sure do have to admit they really do look so cool and it sure is nice to see the cleanly constructed wing.

Oh B.T.W... John, can you please send me some pictures of yours for my website.

I ran.  Tower Hobbies does not list Monokote Trim Solvent.  Put word "solvent" in their search and you get nothing.  Also not listed under Covering Accessories.  Where did you get yours? (Unless it was 20 years ago..)

I made that post in January of 2018, and had got the trim solvent from Tower Hobbies that week.  I don't know if acetone will work, it smells nothing like acetone.

Topflite as a brand is all but dead....no more models, arfs, kits, monokote, trim strips, solvent....all gone---- only remaining stock at folks like Graves RC...etc....

bottle of Top Flite MonoKote Trim solvent sez: cyclohexanone dihydro 1(3H)-furanone and petroleum hydrocarbon

too lazy to seek the MDS ....but not Acetone, MEK, or Xylene....I seem to recall one forum claimed it was actually a Nitro Methane / or Ethane derivative but I am no chemist....perhaps raw nitro does work...dunno

I've built both the 46 and 25 size, from Walter Umland's excellent kits, and can recommend them highly, despite the demise of the designer, who obstinately continues to deny being deceased.
