Title: My New Ride
Post by: Paul Taylor on February 06, 2013, 07:13:14 PM
Here is my new RC trainer. I know it's not CL but some of you guys fly the dark stuff.
Don't know what this plane is.  Some one found it in a old barn and gave it to me. It was real dirty and look like mice ate the wooden push rods. I put a La 25 on it and Jim Lynch helped me get it road ready.
I just like any type of airplane.

I've pretty much completely lost interest in flying RC (and free flight, for that matter). It'll come back, I'm sure, but for now I'm concentrating on CLPA almost exclusively.

I still like watching the RC guys fly, though.

It looks kinda sorta like some of the old Ace stuff from back in the seventies/eighties.  Whatever it is the gear looks at bit too far back for a taildragger.

Paul.

That sure looks like an early 70's version of the Falcon 56 by Carl Goldberg.   I trained many a r/c flier on that plane, did great touch and goes....enjoy.

bring it up this summer.  If we can't fly at the fatm Bong State park is only a few minutes away.  Yes I do that as well.

Yep that looks like the Goldberg Falcon 56.   Was a great flying airplane.

Here's my new toy to play around with.  Just replaced the servos in it for some higher torque, metal gear digital ones.  Just need some longer servo arms to do crazy stuff with it again.

Doesn't the Falcon 56 have an airfoiled stab? The one in the picture is flat.

Looks more like an Eaglet 50 trainer to me with that stab.

Look closer Mark it has a nose gear on it.

Yeah I think Eaglet 50 also.

It's not a Falcon 56. Every time I take my Oriental to the R/C field everybody thinks it's a Nobler !!

For sure the Falcon 56 has an air foiled stab. Way back when I built 2. still have the plans. First 1 was a kit 2nd was scratch built from the plans of the 1st. After I slammed the 1st one into the ground I cut the stab free, mounted a cox .049 on it and had me a Falcon 1/a cl combat wing. It flew good but not good enough for 1/2 combat. but lots of hours of enjoyment.

Not an Eaglet 50. The Eaglet 50 had a cabin with clear windshield and windows.

Paul, looking at the slanted wingtips I would guess it was originally intended as three channel and the ailerons were added later. Just be careful when you make a turn because you may get "automatic" aileron assist as well as what you intend to use whenever you use rudder or get a cross wind.

Good luck with it.
