My new flying field
« on: April 02, 2007, 05:13:11 AM »
Gday all,

Here's a shot on my new flying field at my new address at Anna Bay NSW  (Look that up on Google Earth)  I had my first fly there today and flew my Cardinal and Twister. Check out the spectator area. This little park is a beauty. Big enough for 3 circles, just down the street from my house, Control line and parking on the field _allowed_ No soccer, football or cricket played here as it goes underwater in heavy rain.

On another note: Silly me... I also nearly cut my left hand off when I stuck it into the prop of my Saito 30 powered Twister. I got out of it luckily with 7 small slashes to my left wrist and a big bruise. It's bloody sore right now.  I was flying alone too, using my stooge so luckily it wasnt a deep cut.  I pulled back straight away and the motor didnt cut, but the bugger got me 7 times in that few milliseconds.

G'Day Warren,
Nice place you have there. Not sure your new neighbors can appreciate the smell of castor in the morning. D>K
But I sure would like to fly there with you. I like the Cardinal.
I tried to get directions but something must be wrong with Google. It could not calculate driving directions from my neighborhood to yours.  LL~ LL~ LL~

Hi Paul

Well they already put up with lawn mowers and whipper snippers that start running at 7am so I can't see how they would complain about my quiet little engines at 9am.  :)

Try this link to get a different more detailed perspective of our little town.

Warren,

You are clearly a long way from Washington state. Good sense has little to do with what people will complain about. Some lady made a formal complaint when a friend of mine and I flew at a city park at 11 am on a Saturday. The park is right next to a ferry terminal and between the traffic noise, general noise from the city and the noise of the ferries, it's pretty loud around there. We thought flying wouldn't be a problem. The city had given us permission to fly there and we even drew a spectating crowd. But one nut, 5 blocks from the park makes a complaint and now we are banned from the site.

Warren,
That is one neat little town. I wish it was not so far of a drive for me. LL~ So where would someone from that town go on vacation?
And how come no one is out on the beach?
If that spot was in the US, that whole beach area would be covered in bodies and large high rise hotels. Nice to see you guys can keep it clean.

The folks around here aren't your typical city folk who complain about every little thing.  Most people I have met think people who live in Sydney are rude, arrogant and stupid. This is because the meet them mainly as tourists who just think they are better than us locals because they are on holidays and have lots of money to spend. (stereotypically speaking)

People around here are used to plane noise because we are in the flight area of an RAAF airbase (Williamtown Airbase 15 kms away) which is home to Australia's F18 squadron.

This area is a very popular tourist destination. The sand dunes you see have been used for the making of movies such as Mad Max and many others that I cant think of right now. I love driving my 4WD on them.  High rise buildings are not allowed by government legislation, and those aerial photos were probably taken in winter on a weekday when no-one was out and about.

How much would that house with the high-pitched green roof cost?  HB~> Steve

Steve

Houses in the area sell for between $300K AU (single storey) and $550K AU (multi storey) and waterfront houses go for over 1 million AU.  The one you mentioned would be somewhere around 350,000 to 400,000 I would guess. (That is $280K to $320K USD)

Why? You thinking of moving out here?  ;D

Here's a pic of mine... worth around $500K AU  n~

Cheers

I'm sure thinkin' about moving someplace, just not sure where. I doubt the GDU would (oh, Gummint Down Under) would want anybody my age unless I was rich, which I'm not. Sure did consider it,  when I was there, back in '83.

Hey Rob,

Well this field certainly would be good for floats at the moment and yes I did consider it.  I can just see myself out there now flying in rubber boots or trout fishing pants or something with a float plane.  If it stays wet for much longer I might just have to do that. ~>

Well here the last few summers have been a little dry and the grass is starting to grow in clumps so take offs and landings are a little jumpy.

Be grateful that puddle is protecting your flying site from other predators.  There is a model for every situation. With a shallow puddle I'd pull out either the Hovercraft or the airboat.
