My first scratch built profile
« on: September 19, 2009, 12:13:55 PM »
Several years ago I was building a profile kit and the fuselage was warped. One of the suggestions was to cut a new fuse ( by Sparky ) I declined saying I couldn't do it. Well my dad always said " Can't, can't do Sh*t" so although it took me long enough I finally finished it. I put it aside after I sprayed it in silver, cause every time I'd sand on it I'd put holes in it and have to patch it. I covered the wing in Ultracoat (over the silkspan) and painted with Duplicolor and cleared with Minwax Poly. Power is an L&J Fox 35, it totals out at 37 1/4 oz and has a 47 3/4" wing. It's a "Miss BJ" Reno racer, I hope to fly it tomarrow. I still have to epoxy the flaps and wrap the leadouts. Here's some pics OBTW am thinking of enlarging 18% just for grins VD~

I can already tell you, the Miss BJ is a very good flying model. Mark Bowen and I built them years ago here in Las Cruces and really liked them. Bill Melton suggested the model to me in 1987 as a good scratch build profile.

You'll like it.

I put 4 flights on it this morning and I think I'll keep it  LL~. I was looking through old post's and I built this in Sept and Oct of 06, it's probobly a good thing I didn't finish it then cause I'd have crashed it by now ! It flew just fine was hunting a little and the wind didn't help either. I did have to lower the tail wheel, on a paved surface it's ok but I fly on grass. The plans show 1 3/4" main wheels but I went with 2 1/2 on grass. If anyone is interested Action Ed in the vendors corner offers a short kit of this for 45.00 I think, you'll have to double check the price. The L&J Fox 35 has plenty of power and really zips it around, the Randy Smith NVA for the 35 sure makes setting the needle easy. I'm flying on .015 60' eye to eye lines, can't wait to get it flyin again.

That is a very cool plane!

The Toyota baring down on it reminds me of "Leave it to Shareen"
