This is what happens when you let your engineers loose to dream.

WOW! That's cool. They sure get a lot of lift from those.... eh.....wings(?)
I wonder what water foil (?, can't say air) they use. I'd like to see that sailboat zip across the Pacific. ;D

So totally cool!!! When I sailed (Raced) as part of Fleet 204 Oneida Lake, NY all over the NE using my Hobie 18 Magnum in my 30's I never thought a monohull would ever outclass a catamaran. The days of telltales are long gone here.

Absolutely awesome technology, but to be honest I miss the yachts.

Back in 1982, a friend that attended Cal Poly Pomona with me in mechanical engineering selected as his senior project the design and fabrication of a set of foils for his Hobie cat. He cut the upper surface to a pure arc since that he felt it would be adequate, but also because it seemed easiest at the time. He used a very large barrel fixture and mounted the foil blanks on it and turned the whole ensemble on a huge lathe. As I recall, in the test phase he was able to get it foil-born, but anything that disturbed the boat in pitch required a lot of luck to stay up. He used some type of float on a lever arm to automatically adjust the foil pitch.
Seems like forty years and cubic dollars has advanced the concept a bit....

It's not really beautiful, but looks highly functional. It appears they will have (maybe already). Thought I saw that they would be racing.

Me too! They are much "prettier". The pros probably don't like that they can be very evenly matched.

Well; technically it's not a "monohull" at all. It's a "Hydrofoil"

Well that's to bad :-[

I've never seen that. It's crazy!

I have always had an interest in the Americas Cup event, but haven't paid much attention to it in a lot of years. My how things have changed!! Anyone know where I can read about the current current trend ion design and how they function? I notice also after watching the 6th race in the finals tonight that they don't don't run a triangle course any more, apparently to not have to make a down wind run. I always liked to watch the sail and course changes!! Talk about team work!!
Type at you later,

I do miss watching them set the spinnaker. That was the sailing analog of a pit stop in motor racing.

Isn't it a monohull craft with a hydrofoil plane in the wate?
