Model Magazine Subscription
« on: August 06, 2007, 11:05:42 PM »
I subscribe to several different model airplane magazines. One of them I subscribed to last December for one year. In about 5 or 6 months I received a notice wanting me to renew my subscription for 34.95, the same price I had paid for the initial subscription. I decided to wait awhile and a few days ago I received another notice also wanting 34.95. I happen to look on line and saw where I could renew through ,I assume brokers, for anywhere from 16 to 44 dollars. Most of them were about 28 dollars. The 16 dollar deal required you to accept email from sponsors. I called the magazine today to see if they would extend my subscription for the 28 dollars. I don't know the name of the person that I talked to .but it could have been Ms. Rude Bi###. When I told her that I could renew it on line for 28 dollars she snapped back immediately, "well that's where you should buy it".

Has anyone ever renewed a subscription through one of these on line company's? If you have had good dealings with any of them let me know. If you have had a sour deal PM me.

My initial subscription to FM was through a broker or whatever they where. No problems here, how about post some sites for cheap subscriptions as I need to renew by the end of the year.

Here is a site that compares subscription prices from numerous brokers.

http://www.magazinepricesearch.com/index.html

While I am at it here is one that compares gasoline for any zipcode in the US. It will come up for the cheapest gas in the US and then you can change the zip code.

I tried that online subscription thing one year and never again.  Nothing like getting two copies of everything as the magazine company would not extend my renewal with the onling thing.  So what ever the price is I pay it just like gasoline.  Got gas in Ozark, Mo. for 2.57 a gallon.  Branson wanted 2.89. Here's a copy of the post "Flying Models at a Great Price" I ordered a subscription through Greg a few weeks ago, but haven't yet received my magazine. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Flying Models at a Great Price

I've just renewed my subscription to Flying Models and want to remind y'all again that it's available at a great price - $15 for a one-year new subscription or renewal.  Publishers make subscriptions like this available through what I'll simply call "back channels" in order to keep their circulation up: bigger numbers, better advertising revenue.

I go through Greg Murray in New York - who I don't know from Adam - but I started dealing with him 3 or 4 years ago and don't hesitate to recommend him.

Some points: Send payment or inquiry to gmurray711@aol.com (he accepts PayPal).  Expect to wait 60 to 90 days before the subscription starts.  He can't submit a renewal for you until roughly 60 or more days after your initial subscription.  If it's a renewal, be sure to specify RENEWAL.  And watch the label on your magazine, which includes the last issue of your subscription.  (Flying Models messed up one of my renewals and initially sent me 2 issues per month, but recognized their mistake and made it right.)

If the price sounds too good to be true ...  it's Not!  When I managed a publishing company, we received several lists each week of "discount subscriptions" like this offered to keep subscriber numbers up.  The general public simply doesn't hear about them.
