My favorite contest, the Jim Tichy Memorial.
« on: October 06, 2013, 11:22:28 PM »
I love this one. OT and Classic only, October weather, a beautiful flying site, good buddies to chat with. Even the drive to Kennedy Park through Napa is enjoyable. Why anybody within a couple hundred miles of this place would miss it is beyond me. Jim "Uncle Jimby" Aron does a class job as CD of this event.

I don't have the scores from today event, but the winner of the Jim Tichy Award (voted on by the pilots by secret ballot) was Larry Fernandez. His orange Thunderbird is astounding!

Old Time winner: Bob Duncan
Classic winner: Ted Fancher

Edit: I found a pic of the scoreboard on Heeman's site, but I don't have his permission to post it here.

His first PT-19 was the best model airplane I had ever seen, and reportedly his new PT-19 is even better. The T-Bird is certainly extraordinary. Arguably the best dope finisher there is, including Windy Alan Resinger.

Yeah, he had the PT-19 at the Meet n Meat. It's detail and finish is amazing.

Thanks Clint. As you probably noticed at the awards ceremony, I was quite speechless at winning this award.
Mr. Jim Tichy was a TRUE gentleman in all regards, and a hero to me and my son Aaron. Jim spent many, many hours talking finishing techniques with me and we bounced many ideas off of each other. I miss him dearly and I am humbled that my fellow stunt flyers would consider to mention my name along  with his.
I won the Oakland Roadster Show in 1993 with my el Camino. And in 2005, my 71 Triumph Bonneville won best restored motorcycle at Grand National Roadster Show in Pamona. I have won three Concourse de Elegance awards at the Golden State Stunt Championships and many MVP awards playing baseball.
But The Jim Tichy award is the most cherished award I have ever had the privilege to win.
Thank you to all that thought enough of me and my work to allow me the honor of holding that special trophy for a year.
