Title: My Doorbell rang this afternoon
Post by: Mark Mc on August 11, 2024, 11:42:53 PM
Last year I was talking to a neighbor a few houses down, and the conversation got around to control line flying.  He said that as a younger man he flew with the Tulsa Gluedobbers.  So I said they were still going and invited him out to fly or attend a meeting.  He never came out and I guess he just wasn’t interested in getting back into it.  So, today he dropped by with a milk crate with some engines.  He said that he was cleaning and found the engines, and thought I might like them.  I offered to pay for them, but he was just wanting to see them go to someone who might use them.

Looking at the boxes, I figured there’d be a few Fox 35’s, some LA’s and a Thunder Tiger something.  I set the box aside until this evening, and then started looking through them.  The first box I picked up had a Fox 46BB ABC CL engine.  It appeared to never have been mounted or run.

Next was a pair of Fox 40BB Delux Schneurle ABC’s with spinners, one new never run.  Further digging found a pair of 10 FP’s, three 25 FP’s, a pair of FP40’s, and a new and never run Thunder Tiger Pro 36.

The interesting one was in a box labeled 15 LA-S.  Not quite sure what it is, but not an LA.  I’m sure someone here can identify this for me.

It has N 51 on the side, #349 on the side of the right lug, and on the bottom it has “Randy #349” engraved on it.

That guy gave you a good thousand dollars worth of engines. Wish I had a neighbor like that.

If you can get Randy on the phone, or drop him an email with that number off the engine, he should be able to tell you who bought it and other tidbits of information, and whether he has any parts on hand for it.  If he still has any piston/liner sets for it, I would invest in a set just to have them. bearings can be purchased elsewhere.
  Type at you later,
   Dan McEntee

My PA .51 is #339, so 10 hashmarks earlier...they're almost bookends. You got a great engine there, have it, hold it, break it in and treat it respectfully!  8) Steve
