Take-apart ship - how to get them to come apart?
« on: August 03, 2023, 05:51:59 PM »
Guys,
Finished a take-apart version of the Barnstomer using the Paul Walker Impact approach. All is good but when I needed to actually take it apart, I found that some pieces were stuck together more than I wanted. I slowly worked them free with a little twisting and a #11 knife without damage but was wondering what have you guys done to allow easy repeatable disassemble? Is there a wax or prep method that makes it easier?

Best,   DennisT

Wax paper between the wing and fuselage.  Used that on my Mustang (not the Rabe one) Or coat the places where it joins with silicone lube.  It dries but stays really slippery.  But, it will probably stop doing that once everything really, really dries and you have taken it apart a couple of times.

If it is not broke you are not trying hard enough.

If you leave all the bolts out , the vibration when you fly it , should have it come apart in the air .  ;)

this may be due to heavy ( by heavy i mean just a little)  paint build up and they stick by interference. If you add vinyl adhesive tape to one of the sides will prevent that.
while finishing i allow about 3 layers of masking tape of tolerance between finished parts for that purpose.
one more thing, take-a-part models arenīt supposed to be taken apart frequently, just for plane rides and alike, if you do it regularly you will end up having slack on commands and bolts, wich is no good in flight.
regards
