Title: My Childhood hero added
Post by: RC Storick on August 17, 2006, 07:26:01 PM
I added my my childhood hero (I was 16) Jack Sheeks to the hall of fame. Some will remember back in the 60tys jack could build and publish a plane a week. At least it seemed that way to me back then. I have told Jack to his face that he was my hero back then and I always aspired to be just like him! 20 years ago he gave me a signed picture of himself and I still have it today. Thanks Jack for all you have done for modeling! Someday I will grow up to be just like you.

Jack is a great guy....
He currently suffers from an equilibrium problem and has had to curtail his Stunt activities...
The Scale world is reaping that reward....
He had a blast at Brodak's contest....

Hey he was my hero also. I aways wondered if he really had the time to fly all his creations. I'd have a hard time getting them built that fast let alone fly.

He is on my hero list also.  I was so excited about him launching my Staggerwing at VSC that year I forgot my inverted laps.   DOC Holliday

Sheek's bio is intersting reading. I have seen a number of plans by Jack Sheeks, but knew nothing about him. I have just finished building his Corsair Stunter with OS 40 for power. The HOF is another fine touch to a fine forum site.

Those were the days for sure, I've always liked Jack's stuff too. I wish more modelers nowadays would have the gumption to scratchbuild more original designs. y1

Jack is Ace's with me! 8) He is a true gentleman, and is even a member of our club. Though he only makes it to his winter home a very brief time each year, we really look forward to his and Shirley's short winter visits. Jack can build faster than anyone I know, and his no nonsense approach to design is really unique.

If you ask Jack why so many designs, he'll tell you that an honest cop's salary ain't that great, and the Magazine paid pretty good for his articles, plus he enjoyed doing it. He even had his own darkroom, and most of the photography and camera ready typsetting was done by Jack himself.  (The mag paid more for camera ready material) You figure out the rest, heh. <=

I've drooled over LaDonna and Torrino plans for years, even thought Walter U. might be convinced to kit one once, but alas, it was not to be. I see RSM did kit Jacks Mosquito  but I really don't want to deal with a twin right now ...  ::) someday...someday...

Excellent choice Sparky, Congrat's Jack!  #^ #^ #^
