I know I have been guilty of this, and a relation actually wore out a brand new Enya engine before ti was ever mounted in a model by sitting an watching TV while flipping the engine over and over and over again. I don't know but there is something very addictive about that action. I have since broken myself from that awful habit so there are never any loose model engines with a prop mounted anywhere near a television set.

We don't have that problem in our house.  We do not receive any TV transmission. Also, our addition to old movies we get on DVD discs from Netflix are so good that thinking of doing anything but watching is simply out of the question.

Yes they do, and they're Wrong. I think they got tired of so many first-time owners calling about engines they couldn't crank. Here's a post I wrote some time ago addressing that destructive advice:

     Today Don and I were at the Huntersville field and I was flipping the prop on my ST/46 before setting it on the ground and it did a slight POP right on my finger nail. It tried to start. It had not had fuel in it in two months. Darn that hurt.

I've never worn out an engine doing it... but I too, enjoy the therapeutic effect of flipping over a very "snappy" propped engine. One of my favorites is to flip over a stout Fox 36X... such a pleasing sound!

I have a lot of cool engines---- 2 Fox 36x.. one BG liner piston...the other as Duke shipped it

No way I can hand flip either-- in my hands--- without loosening the glow plug

Or perhaps as noted by Peter...Andre has fondled his crank so much it is now pretty loose

My Cox Conquest .15 has a pleasingly healthy pop. Such a gorgeous(and Badass) engine too
