Mr. Paul Walker's Outlaw Airplane
« on: July 24, 2008, 02:31:36 PM »
Hi guys,

Does anyone remember Mr. Walker's Outlaw Airplane. I'm probably wrong, seems to me around 1986 Mr. Walker brought his outlaw airplane to the Golden State Contest. Great looking plane, just didn't seem to fly as well as some of Mr. Walker's designs. Did he do anymore trimming on this ship and get this plane to fly, if anyone could, it would be him. Is there any pictures of this ship? It might not even be Paul, its just the way I remember it. Have a great day and keep them in the air, Gary

The only "Outlaw" that I know about was a semi-elliptical, gorgeously finished plane with gold leaf on the wing. Designed and built by Walt Prey. Paul did, hmm, let's see (I'm sure I'll miss some and these are only the ones I've seen), The Seahawker (name stolen from Donnie Shultz), Frustration's End, For Reels, Series of Bad News, Discovery, And of course, numerous Impacts, followed by a few P-51s then back to Impacts. No Outlaws that that I know of, though there was this one Delta winged job....

Hi Randy,

Maybe it was the Bad News series, I just can't get it out of my head seeing that plane yawing in the squares and the wing over. Memories sometimes can be way off base. Thank you for your input, Gary

If you want to check it out Walt Prey's planes are featured in the July/August 1998 issue of Stunt News.  There is a picture of one of Walt's "Outlaw" designs called the "Gunslinger".   It features an airbrushed portrait of an outlaw firing a 6 shooter in the sunset - incredible and and all paint, no decals allowed.  Walt also wrote an article on painting and designing in that issue that is well worth reading.

I've talked to Walt a couple of times. The guy is a professional custom auto painter and has had several cars on the cover of magazines. I wish I knew what Walt's forgotten about painting. Greg Howie, who posts here occasionally, is a flying buddy of Walt's. Perhaps he can enlighten up further or maybe post a pic or two.

Here are a couple that I have. Man, that guy can paint. I love the T-bird.

Walt lives close to me. Helped me with a paint scratch problem on my Tundra some time back.  Little known fact is that Walt helped windy with some great paint tips. You can see them on one of Windy's Spitfire videos. Windy Considers Walt "thee master" of the spray gun. High praise indeed!! His Outlaws are beautiful. He takes a verrry long time to build them. Walt is a pure builder.

Milt,

That's been my experience. Nice guy and I've hit up Walt once or twice for ideas/techniques and whatever. He was instrumental in the finish on my Novi. I sure like his stuff.

I never had an "Outlaw".  Sounds like Walt Prey, although I never saw him at a contest.

Yawing you say.....That's something I don't tolerate too well....Are you sure it was me???

Hi Paul,

I'm sure it was you, Ted, Gid and the rest of the gang was watching and I'm sure I'm wrong about the plane name. It was a big plane and you wasn't very happy with her.  All I remember you wasn't very happy with her. It was a first addition you was flying at the Golden State Contest at Clovis High, many years ago, Gary
