I'm curious if I'll be the only C/L flyer in Montana when I get there. Anyone in Stunthangerland live in Montana?

Was just through there 2 weeks ago. I'm in Spokane wa. Might make for a good excuse for a day trip though if you get a flying area established there. That, or you drive here and we can fly at my field.

Do you fly with or know Paul Walker? He lives just North of Spokane. How often do you get over to Great Falls? Would be nice to have your own field. We looked at a home on 10 acres and it had a perfect site to fly, but the house itself had the world's worst floor plan; would not have been happy in it. Oh well. Moving in November, and will start looking for a site to fly.

There used to be a guy and his father who flew in Boseman. Don't know about these days. He told me the flying weather/season was about two months long. You might add some indoor to your sport.

Back when PAMPA did things right, the 2013 Membership guide indicated that a Robert Moseley lived in Missoula.

Tried contacting him a while back, came up empty.

Let's just say in Montana, I'll have plenty of elbow room. I was on I 15 between Helena and Great Falls a few years ago and there was no one else on the freeway (either way) in front of me, looked in the rear view mirror and saw no one behind me. Sure different than California.

I thought Cali people were moving to Idaho.
I have had a number of my friends here move to Idaho. My wife and I have been going to MT for almost 15 years and own some rentals there. Over time we've made a lot of good friends (unfortunately none are modelers) there. Plus, CA politics drive me crazy.

I do indeed know Paul. Great guy! Have only flown with him once thus far, but I'm hopeful of that changing as time allows.
My field is property owned by a local church. I care for it and they let me use it.
If I had a reason to go to great falls, then I'm sure I could make it more often. Come spring, if you find a suitable place to fly, I'd be happy to make a day trip over. Would be fun.

Raisin' it up, waxin' it down.

Geez, I sure hope you have experienced winter there before deciding to move. You'll not only get to enjoy the cold and snow, but the wind blows pretty good too.
When we were kids we flew out at Fort Missoula in Missoula. Those guys are all either dead or fly RC now.
Sounds like you're about to get the opportunity of starting a new CL club! You can always try indoor electric CL I suppose.
Best of luck to you!

I was up in Anaconda, Mt. a couple of weeks ago. I did find some of the amazing dental floss on the shore of a lake. I wish I could get my wife to agree to live there. However there is no way she can leave the grandkids behind. California politics drives me crazy too.

The 2019 Northwest Regionals results on Flying Lines show Rob Moseley from Missoula, MT competing in Profile Stunt.

Spent 10 years in snowy Idaho. If I move at all, it will be south.

He said in November. That's at least one month into winter. Sometimes two.... ;D
-
I'm jealous! Incredibly beautiful country and incredibly friendly people - it's just a different world. I spent a month there when I was single in 1992 - 3 weeks around Bozeman, 1 week on the Gallatin River. Darned near didn't leave. My wife, son and I plan to go out there next year and also take in Yellowstone (again).
I've sold (on eBay) a few control line related things to buyers in Montana, there has to be something going on. And Central Hobbies in Billings is where I recently ordered carbon pushrods - you might want to check with them https://www.centralhobbies.com/index.php (https://www.centralhobbies.com/index.php).
Good luck!

In a little white box I can sell uptown

By myself, wouldn’t have no boss

When do you move in Brian?
Escrow is due to close on our new home November 8. I plan to be there with a truck full of stuff waiting for the keys. Don't plan on completing the move for 3 or 4 months due to winter. Looking now to buy a used 16 ft. box van.
-
Just so you all know, Yes, we've spent 3 winters in Montana, and do not find it objectionable. I much prefer the winters to California's central valley 100+ degree days for nearly 4 months. Plus, California's politicians are all idiots.

So true, but one has to wonder, who are the bigger idiots, the politicians or the idiots that vote for them?

We will be whizzing by in late October. Was hoping it might have closed early and we could take a look.
Once again, just a bit too early, right Scott?

You really shouldn't be so hard on yourself
Not at all Uncle Bob.
I didn’t vote for Gavin Newsom
I didn’t vote for Jerry Brown
I didn’t vote for Nancy Polosi
I didn’t vote For Diane Finstien
And I didn’t vote for Barbara Boxer or any other liberal pinhead that is trashing this state.
So there is no need for me to be hard on myself.

So.... voting didn't accomplish anything.
South Park got it right with their election episode.

Well I just might grow me some bees
But I'd leave the sweet stuff to somebody else
But then on the other hand I would
Keep the wax
'N melt it down
Pluck some floss
'N swish it aroun'
I'd have me a crop
An' it'd be on top
That's why I'm movin' to Montana

Maybe next spring we can hook up with the RVs and do Glacier or Yellowstone? And of course, a nite or two at the Massey Hotel. Over the course of the winter we'll be in a state of flux, packing in Madera, unpacking in GF. Travel days being dictated by weather.
