Motor Mounts and Maple Spars
« on: October 02, 2010, 10:57:01 AM »
Today I cut a good bit of hard maple. I was making motor mounts in 3/8" X 1/2" X 12" that I plan to bring to Huntersville. When I was cutting the large boards into strips I was checking for being straight. I had some strips that were 50 inches long and have a straight grain and they are straight pieces. My thought was they would make nice full size spars for the Super Duper Zilch or possibly some other plane that would use a long length. I used to have these back when Isky had his board and I sold them for $5.00 each. I haven't had any of these since due to not finding good wood. Is anyone interested in me bringing them to Huntersville? The price will remain the same but I will not ship these.

When I make motor mounts I cut boards ( from the lumber yard ) into strips of 7/16" X 9/16". These are then run through a surface planer on all four sides which removes the saw marks and then cut to length.
